Super User Cgolf Posted July 21, 2022 Super User Posted July 21, 2022 Not adding to @Glenn post on the rod thread because that seems to be mostly the products and not the discussion. Overall I wasn't jumping to order a lot of new stuff, and was really underwhelmed. The price of some baits in particular hurt my brain, like some spinnerbaits and something silly like the jigging shadow rap. Things that wowed me Freedom Speed Freak - Started a thread a while back and this looks awesome and now that I saw the smallie version on TW, a compact spinnerbait this could be the big bait for me and hopefully few in WI buy them;) Flambeau Slim waterproof terminal box - First the price at 25 wowed me and then I really looked at it and the 4 covered compartments are really nice. This box for my tackle needs looks like a better option than the pricier boxes. I don't use Tungsten worm weights so not having storage designed for that is a plus for me. 3.5" Saltwater Menace Chartreuse Silver - This has been a great color for me chasing river smallies and there are not a lot of bass baits in this color. Can't wait to buy multiple packs of this one so I don't run out. Z man Larvaz - THis looks like it could be a great river smallie bait, or worst case I use them for trout. Lunker hunt Swing spoon - I like spinnerbaits and this looks unique and something outside the box. I will try this sometime to see if it produces. Interesting Baits Water and Woods Triple Trap - Recently read a magazine article about this and I would love a few of these! In the interesting category because I would likely never actually spend the money on them with all the toothy critters in our lakes. Z man shad Fryz - looks like a good river bait and possibly a trout bait as well for the creeks around here Suspending ripplin red fin - have always liked the original, so might have to give this one a spin. Likely a much different action than other suspending baits. Might Buy but really don't need Bill Lewis Scope Stik - Looks interesting but do I really need to try another jerkbait. Quote

I wonder if the lure category has just gotten to a point it is difficult to innovate? Essentially it has become a game of using proven baits in new presentations or minor tweaks or new colors. Electronics on the other hand is interesting even though I don’t know if I would fish with the new stuff. Would be nice to use the forward live stuff to the scan water to learn a lake, but I wouldn’t feel right catching fish you see on the screen to the point you can watch yourself pulling them up. This is for me only, no issues with others using it. 1 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 From what I've seen that hellraizer seems to be the only thing even remotely innovative. 2 Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted July 21, 2022 Super User Posted July 21, 2022 I don't even have enough spare cash to replace lost lures right now - buying something new is completely out of the question. Quote

Right now I'm good - only lost about 1/2 dozen Action Tails in Watermelon Red Flake...but considering I started with about 3 full bags...I'm not hurting. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 21, 2022 Super User Posted July 21, 2022 I have not seen too many new lures or soft plastics that thrilled me - except for possibly the new Yamamoto floating 3" Ned stick worm (not sure about the durability though) . Any new lures from ICAST 2022 this week that you were thrilled about ? Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted July 21, 2022 Super User Posted July 21, 2022 A Frittside for dirtier water, sign me up. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Clickin_Frittside_Crankbait/descpage-BFCC.html Also liking this new color in the Dredger. Vanilla Chartreuse. Curious if it's translucent. 2 Quote

Happybeerbuzz Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 I will be the first admit that I am indicative of the idea that lures are meant to catch fisherman more than they are meant to catch fish. However, I am not feeling enticed by anything from this year's ICast so far. Quote
AmmoGuy Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 I will, inevitably, end up with some of these.... https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_Otts_Garage_OG_Rocco_5_Crankbait/descpage-ROGR5.html Quote

It has to be hard designing new baits that don't "knock off" anything that's already out there. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted July 22, 2022 Super User Posted July 22, 2022 Speaking of knockoffs. This is rich considering Zaldain just left Megabass. Total knockoff of the Magdraft. Him talking about how he and Bass Mafia put all this work in designing this is just hilarious, and quite embarrassing IMO. 2 1 Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 The new missile baits/roboworm crossover worm I really like, strike king rage worm is also pretty interesting. The one lineup I'm really intrigued about is the netbait "baitfuel" soft plastics they're releasing, I still can't decide if baitfuel is a gimmick or not. Quote

Applies to rods and reels as well, but it's not limited to fishing, equipment in all sorts of sports are pretty much beyond any appreciable improvement. Quote
MAN Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 I walked the new product showcase lure area several times making sure I wasn't overlooking anything as well as the new mom and pops that were at the show....I didn't see anything to write home about with regards to lures. I really think manufactures are just playing it safe right now and probably have spent more time dealing with logistical and inventory issues than product development. Quote
Mojo Bass Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Am I the only one who seems intrigued by Berkley’s new baits? The slobberknocker, power stinger, and power blades Spinnerbaits all look pretty good to me…….. I’ve never fished any Berkley baits outside the bullet pop so I can’t say I have much experience with their products….. but that vibrating jig and trailer combo look really good to me…… and having 244 different blade/colour options for the Spinnerbaits seems like a good thing….. maybe I’m just an easy fisherman to catch 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 23, 2022 Super User Posted July 23, 2022 Any of the new offerings from Z-Man and Yamamoto would be my favorites Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 24, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 24, 2022 I'm excited about the Zman panfish baits ? There was a couple crankbaits I liked. The rattling Frittside will be one I'll add to my box, the Spro Chad Shad is going to be another. Really liked the looks of the Spro Essential spinnerbaits and some of the new Berkley hardbaits also. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I think out of all the new lures this year the only things I will likely end up with are some of the new Z-man micro stuff, and these Nishine Lure Works top water minnows. 1 Quote
