KSanford33 Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 Yeah so, a reel I've had for 30+ years finally broke. It was a Quantum Hypercast. I'd like to replace the rod while I'm at it. Any suggestions for a solid spinning rod? I'll be primarily using it for soft baits (Senkos, ned rigs, etc.) Quote

KSanford33 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Just now, WRB said: Budget? Preferred rod power/action/length? Tom Sub $200, as for the rest, I don't know enough to really say. Just something that has a very sensitive tip because I'm not the best at detecting bites yet. Thanks Tom. Quote

Well if it hasn't happened yet in 30 years you may be SOL. ? Totally kidding. That just made me chuckle a bit.. Too bad this didn't happen when the 4th of July sales were going on. 2 Quote

It's like the advice I give a buddy of mine when he asks me what he should do to improve at golf: "Take two weeks off, then quit the game altogether." ? 5 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 Don't know how to copy a link to another thread, so look down the Rods Reels and Lines forum for a thread called "Appreciate Some Thoughts" Lots of good suggestions in that thread in the same price range as you are asking about. 3 Quote
NavyToad Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 Some people spend a week researching this stuff, others, not so much. If you want to keep it simple, below is what I consider good bang for the buck. A Medium 1/8-1/2oz rod should suit your needs, or maybe you prefer Medium Light. There are several manufacturers that offer combos - Lews has a few good ones. Or you can buy the rod and reel seperately. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/daiwa-fuego-lt-bass-pro-shops-pro-qualifier-2-spinning-rod-and-reel-combo 3 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 20, 2022 Super User Posted July 20, 2022 Shimano spinning reels in the $75-100 price point have been good value for a while now. A sahara paired with a Falcon Bucoo would fish well and last a while. It should come in just under $200. Size wise, I'd probably go with the 3000 size sahara since the 2500 is the same weight but slower. I like a 2000 size, but there are fewer around now. The Sedona would save a couple bucks and the Falcon Lowrider would be a modest upgrade. That combo would be about $215 but I'd prefer it for the extra $15. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted July 20, 2022 Super User Posted July 20, 2022 If you can, wait for the end of the year events at Cabelas and others. Or maybe the Tackle Warehouse Labor Day sale. I have a Daiwa Fuego spin reel that is very nice. I cannot tell it from the Tatula for the way it fishes. For your technique I would look for a 7 foot , fast action, medium power rod. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 20, 2022 Super User Posted July 20, 2022 Look at Tackle Warehouse site under spinning rods, spinning reels. Both Daiwa and Shimano have good rods and reels within your budget. I would stay with 2500 size reels and 7’ +/- 3” Medium Fast rod. Tom 2 Quote
Dannyinorthidaho Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Pfueger president XT?? Red and black. Great handle lists of smooth reel turns when u let it go!. Can’t go wrong with the XT under 100 Quote
The Pond King Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 If it were me, I'd go with a St. Croix Triumph 7' MLF (TRS70MLF), and I'd buy the newly released Shimano Sahara FJ 3000 spinning reel. Quote
