Yeah so, a reel I've had for 30+ years finally broke. It was a Quantum Hypercast. I'd like to replace the rod while I'm at it. Any suggestions for a solid spinning rod? I'll be primarily using it for soft baits (Senkos, ned rigs, etc.)

Sub $200, as for the rest, I don't know enough to really say. Just something that has a very sensitive tip because I'm not the best at detecting bites yet. Thanks Tom.

Correct. I might be in a different tax bracket than some people on here. ?

Rod: 13 Fish Omen Green OG2C68ML 6'8" Med Light Fast 1/8-1/2oz  $100-$110

Reel: Daiwa BG 1500 $99 on Amazon

The BH series is a size larger than current common sizes of other Daiwa Shimano reels.  The 1500 is equal to a common 2500 size reel.

Well if it hasn't happened yet in 30 years you may be SOL. ?

Totally kidding. That just made me chuckle a bit..

Too bad this didn't happen when the 4th of July sales were going on.

You're not wrong. It's like the advice I give a buddy of mine when he asks me what he should do to improve at golf: "Take two weeks off, then quit the game altogether." ?

Don't know how to copy a link to another thread, so look down the Rods Reels and Lines forum for a thread called "Appreciate Some Thoughts"

Lots of good suggestions in that thread in the same price range as you are asking about.

Some people spend a week researching this stuff, others, not so much.

If you want to keep it simple, below is what I consider good bang for the buck. A Medium 1/8-1/2oz rod should suit your needs, or maybe you prefer Medium Light.
There are several manufacturers that offer combos - Lews has a few good ones.

Or you can buy the rod and reel seperately.

Shimano spinning reels in the $75-100 price point have been good value for a while now.  A sahara paired with a Falcon Bucoo would fish well and last a while.  It should come in just under $200.  Size wise, I'd probably go with the 3000 size sahara since the 2500 is the same weight but slower.  I like a 2000 size, but there are fewer around now.  The Sedona would save a couple bucks and the Falcon Lowrider would be a modest upgrade.  That combo would be about $215 but I'd prefer it for the extra $15.

If you can, wait for the end of the year events at Cabelas and others.  Or maybe the Tackle Warehouse Labor Day sale.

I have a Daiwa Fuego spin reel that is very nice.  I cannot tell it from the Tatula for the way it fishes.

For your technique I would look for a 7 foot , fast action, medium power rod.

Look at Tackle Warehouse site under spinning rods, spinning reels. Both Daiwa and Shimano have good rods and reels within your budget.

I would stay with 2500 size reels and 7’ +/- 3” Medium Fast rod.

If it were me, I'd go with a St. Croix Triumph 7' MLF (TRS70MLF), and I'd buy the newly released Shimano Sahara FJ 3000 spinning reel.
