RipHair Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Hey all, well after ned rigging with my AT841-3 ERN 13.7, AA 77.3 and CCS 346g I'm ordering up the Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG reel and was curious what a good and true BFS rod specs would be to pair with it. The AT841-3 is really nice but unsure if it's really BFS and if not then looking for suggestions on blanks I could use. I guess while we're on the subject, any idea what spec range is considered to be BFS anyway? I think we'd want a relatively high AA above 78 to help with hooksets with ned rigs and other finesse plastics. Plan on pairing with 4-6lb FC. Quote
WC53 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Was just over at getbit looking at travel rods. They have several UL-ML Quote
RipHair Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 You're right: I already have a SB841-3 built and it's not very light at all. I guess I'd be looking at the SB720-4 in the Rainshadow RX6. Anyone have CCS specs on this guy? Quote

Super User MickD Posted July 23, 2022 Super User Posted July 23, 2022 With what you know about the SB841-3, you might consider this one: SB781-3 Trout / panfish light jigs and tube etc. 6.6" 6-12 1/8-3/8 3 0.5 5 Fast 1.89 ML I'm no expert at BFS, but this sounds about right. I don't like fly blanks made into spin/cast rods. They seem to be just too sloppy. But as stated, I'm no expert. Quote

I have a ~6’9” forecast 3 piece that used to be a 9’ 6 wt 4 pc. It’s fine but action is a bit slow and ‘mushy’. It was a great 6wt that I broke above the grip. I have. 9’ 8 wt that wasn’t a great fly rod for more than lob casting monofilament running line and weight. Converted to a medium/mh spinning and it’s fine for casting out and sitting on the bottom. WC53 Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I recently tried an old 5 wt. way too mushy. What is your species target? For higher power taper is king. I wonder how some of the travel blanks geared for SST would be. Quote
