RealtreeByGod Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Anyone tie loop knots for "finesse" type jig heads like ned rigs, ball heads, and darters? I've been watching alot of Richard Gene who swears by it. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 19, 2022 Super User Posted July 19, 2022 For crappie, yes - for bass, no. I feel you give up too much in knot strength going that route vs. any benefit gained. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 19, 2022 Super User Posted July 19, 2022 Surgeon loop knot for fishing jigs straight. If not, dropper loop up about 12” - 18” above the surgeons loop. Add a name your favorite sinker and install on surgeon loop and 1/4 oz jig on dropper. Sort of a drop shot. Quote
looking45 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I’d rather have the knot cinched up against the hook to minimize any movement between the line and hook. YMMV Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted July 19, 2022 Super User Posted July 19, 2022 I never use a loop knot. Quote
PressuredFishing Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 It changes the action of lures, you have less direct control and your bait won't do exactly as your tip does. It's like a jig vs a carolina rig, although not near that extreme. Both have their time and place, (but it's more important for lures that don't sit on the bottom for a long time.) winter fishing with a loop knot and twitching a jig every 30 seconds will have no impact, but stroking a jig or fishing a jig with hops reasonably quickly will notice a difference. Ajing fishing in Japan has jigheads that have 2-3 different line ties to create different actions and movements. Quote
