Dannyinorthidaho Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I’m starting all over with bass. I have just 1 nice new crank bait casting rod and reel and I fly fish but right now Im stuck with using my Lamiglas 9’4 fast action med steelhead rod. What are the cons of using the 9’4 besides weight? Can I continue using it for spinner baits, jerkbaits, I guess it will do for now! Any suggestions on a good bass spinning rod under 100 bucks? Thank you Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted July 19, 2022 Super User Posted July 19, 2022 I've had good luck with a Fenwick HMG spin rod. Lots of good rods in that price range now. Your steelhead rod may be awkward for bass. A lot of bass fishing is close in work. Short, accurate casting. Good luck 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted July 19, 2022 Super User Posted July 19, 2022 I don't have a 13Fishing bass rod, but I'm bowled over with my inshore 13Fishing Omen Green - it's the least expensive rod I fish, and I'll always have one in my ML niche. They have plenty of stock on the Fate Black bass rod, @Eric 26 has tried and recommended this rod, and it fits your price. https://13fishing.com/fate-black-3-spinning If you can up the ante, Omen Black is a very good price for The entry level Toray graphite rod. Those long steelhead rods are great for casting, but you'll get a lot more feel and lure finesse from a lighter-weight 7' rod. 1 Quote
thunderblack Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Can you fish with the 9'-4"? Sure, its not the best tool due to steelhead rods being more parabolic so working a bass lure will be tough but I'm sure you can find a few techniques. I throw spoons and spinners for trout on rods of that length in the rivers. If my budget was $100 I would go after a St. Croix premier (probably on sale) or a tatula XT spinner. New model just came out at $99. Good luck! 1 Quote
Rob St Croix Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I enjoy my HMG 6'6" spinning rod.I picked up the last gen HMG off of a discount site. While I'm a St Croix guy, The HMG works well for me when I'm fishing in my Yak. The HMG and any Diawa Lt under a 100 would work for anyone getting back into Bass fishing. 2 Quote
Eric 26 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I will say I’m extremely pleased with my 13 fishing fate black (7’-1”) med light. I really like the fact the handle is shorter than most. The guides are straight and the wraps are well done. It’s also light in hand and very comfortable. As @bulldog1935 said I’m happy enough with this line next time I would up the budget for a Omen Black. As far as a all around spinning rod I would definitely recommend the med power in the Fate Black lineup. 1 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 In your budget range (from bottom to top) I would recommend the Berkley Lightning Rod at $34.99, the Daiwa AirdX at $50, or the Daiwa RG spinning rod at $99. I have alao found that I like the Academy Ethos series of rods and you can typically pick up the Ethos HD for $79 or less if on sale. I agree with the Daiwa Revros, Regal LT, or Fuego as nice spinning reels ranging from $49 - $99. I've got all of them and they are all pretty smooth for the money. Daiwa Revros reel on a AirdX is a pretty decent little setup for around $100 with tax 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 If you have a Scheels near by, check them out...they have Scheels branded rod-n-reel combinations that look pretty solid. Quote
