I cannot manipulate split rings worth a crap.

Try these and you'll become a hook changing machine. So easy, it's almost fun. Works great for adding or removing car keys too.

That's what I use.  I can do it.  Just takes forever....split rings fly, hooks go on backwards, rings get bent out...I have the dexterity of a rock

Uncle Giuseppe

Uncle Giacomo (Jack) He smoked those Pall Malls down to a roach. Took me out flounder fishing in the bay on my 12th birthday. Launched at the Great River Road ramp. I did something or other to aggravate him while he was dropping the boat in, so he called me a stupid mick. I'm half and half, so I popped off and told him: "I thought I was a dumb guinea". I can still see the instant fury in his face. He took a swing at me, but I ducked and ran. Caught some good fish later that day.

I watched my buddy dump what would have been a 30lb bag worth of bass off stock Strike King hooks after I warned him to change the hooks when he bought the bait. Big fish after big fish straightened the hooks and tossed the bait. He salvaged a couple little 1-3 pound fish, but man it was sickening to watch it go down.

I change hooks on mine because I want to give myself the best chance to land a big fish that I spend hours upon hours chasing. Do you have to do it to catch a big fish? Of course not, but it isn't hurting your odds.

No matter how big a fish, she can't apply more pressure on her end than the angler doesn't match on his end.

Better quality hooks don't bend as easily as cheap hooks either.

Wonder what he was doing differently than millions of other strike king users? That’s a lot of straightened hooks in one night.

Yanking too hard with the wrong gear.

Nothing, using a glass cranking rod and mono, the hooks just couldn't handle any kind of pressure from a bigger fish. This was probably 10 years or more ago, maybe their hooks are better now, but I'll never find out.

Apparently a glass cranking rod with 10lb mono is the wrong gear for a crankbait, who knew?

I watched the guy do everything right and the hooks fail him multiple times. You have to be able to pull on them a little bit or you'll never land a fish, but if as soon as the fish surged or he put any heat at all on them, they were gone.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that The average joe sucks at fishing and gets lucky once at a while with a decent fish. How do I know that because, I was that average joe at one time. I made the same mistakes that they did.

The people on these forums are probably the top fisherman in their respected areas outside of the pro’s and weekend tournament people.  If they are not already pro’s or weekend tournament anglers which, I’m sure a lot are.

I took the advice of upgrading hooks 4 years ago on my cranks and my hook up to land ratio greatly increased 100%.  Every moving bait I own outside of spro, mega bass, etc etc gets up graded hooks. If I didn’t I would be waisting my time.  I don’t like to waist my time.
