Either in a Lipless Crank Bait or a Top Water Walking Bait - when do you choose a one knocker hard bait versus a hard bait with standard rattles : Water Color , Temperature , Season , Light Conditions , etc. ?

Except for lipless, I would trade all rattling ones for one knockers, and I'd trade most of my knockers for silent ones.

I let the fish tell me what they want.  Sometimes it matters.  Sometimes it doesn't.  I haven't been able to decipher what conditions correlate with which rattle.  Just sometimes one works better than the other, but most of the time it doesn't seem to matter, so long as it has rattles.  Rattles vs. no rattles seems to make more of difference than different kinds of rattles, and I typically choose no rattles when the bite is slow or the water is very clear.

I find myself typically reaching for knocker style baits over standard rattling baits if I have the option. They seem to be more productive to me, but I haven't kept any numbers or done anything to prove that. I do know I fish them with more confidence that I'm going to catch something, and that does have a big impact on their effectiveness.

When I first started throwing Berkely Dredgers in 15 to 25 foot of water , I was catching limits in places bass have never seen a crankbait . Now I catch  one and the bass scatter . I think the rattle has a lot to do with it . The quieter the bait the more I like it . Plus the hooks and split rings make noise .

I personally haven’t  caught anything on the one knockers, bought a couple, one chrome blue back, nothing, but my multiple rattle one has caught fish.
I know it’s got to be me, just haven’t caught anything.

I only have two one knocker lipless cranks and I very rarely reach for them.  If I'm not getting bit on a crank, or topwater with rattles, my first change is to a 'silent' version. I've gone as far as drilling holes in lipless baits and filling the cavities with glue to silence the rattles.

One knockers and all year long over rattling baits or silent ones in clear water especially in summertime.

I've never tried the one knockers but I've had luck on the Red Eye Shad Tungsten 2 tap.
