Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 12, 2022 Super User Posted July 12, 2022 This category of spinnerbait is in a same size "package" as a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait frame and blades size but offered in larger weight 1/2 oz. & 3/4th oz. weights . I predominantly want to use the Screami'n Eagle for Spotted Bass where a fast reeled reaction bite (you can't swim a lure too fast for spotted bass !) is desired . The design of the Screamin Eagle is similar to the old "Mini Me" spinnerbaits (now offered by Spot Sticker Baits) using a smaller frame and smaller willow leaf blades again in larger 1/2 oz. and 3/4th oz. weights for fast reeling without the spinnerbait rolling ... *Anybody have experience with this type of spinnerbait or any tips they wish to share ? I'll be gearing up for spotted bass when they start aggressively chasing shad in clearer reservoirs in the Fall to feed up for Winter ! Quote

Tip: It's really easy to switch blades out and customize spinnerbaits to do whatever you want them to. A 1/2 oz with small blades is very good for burning. 2 Quote
softwateronly Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Not much of a spinnerbait fisherman, but the screamin eagle is deadly on the smallmouth up here. Definitely worth trying out. scott Quote
Sphynx Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 I fish a lot of WE spinnerbaits, they work pretty well out west for river smallmouth. Can't say I do a ton of really special stuff with them but I do add in some variation in reeling, and occasional stops or rips with the rod, a lot of bass have hammered them right around those variation moments in the retrieve. Big Rick Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 The Screamin' Eagle comes in a limited color range of skirts. If you care to swap them out to another color use the War Eagle Replacement Skirts. They come 2 to a pack and will slip over the hidden weight family easily with a dab of lube. I love these baits and catch a lot of LMB's on them in cypress lakes. Skirt below is my all time favorite. Super User Jig Man Posted July 13, 2022 Super User Posted July 13, 2022 War Eagle is the only kind of spinnerbaits that I buy. You can make them last longer by wrapping the R part of the wire with wire or thread. I do that then cover it with shrink tubing like the one in the pic. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted July 13, 2022 Super User Posted July 13, 2022 Screaming eagle is a great spinnerbait for burning and in general. My favorite spinnerbaits are 3/8oz Nichols frames, 1/2oz+ Booyah Covert frames, and Stanley’s intermixed. There are a few exceptions Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 13, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 13, 2022 Screaming Eagle is a must have smallmouth and spotted bass spinnerbait IMO. I burn it for the most part but occasionally killing it for just a second before burning it again, especially around vertical cover like dock post, ladders, or timber, can really get them going. Super User Log Catcher Posted July 14, 2022 Super User Posted July 14, 2022 I use the Screamin Eagles. I have better luck slow rolling them but I'm not targeting SMB or Spotted Bass. I've never had any luck burning baits on the retrieve. Spot Remover is my favorite color. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 14, 2022 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2022 Thanks for the replies to date - I also like the fact there are War Eagle replacement skirts I can use on the Screamin Eagle as well . 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 14, 2022 Super User Posted July 14, 2022 I pour my own and a 1/2 ounce bait with 4.5 willow and Colorado is the blade combo I use most . I can run it slow just under the surface by raising the rod tip a bit or burn it . I catch bass all summer on it . If I desire even more lift then part of a stick worm used as a trailer will create drag . Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted July 14, 2022 Super User Posted July 14, 2022 Screaming Eagle tears up Smallies here on the Ozarks . They are my go to for sure Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 17, 2022 Super User Posted July 17, 2022 R2 .035 frame, 3.5 and 4 willow blades. I have some of the heads already made around here somewhere. Allen 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 17, 2022 Author Super User Posted July 17, 2022 *I ordered some 1/2 oz. Scream'n Eagles to try out ... I also will experiment with reducing the back willow leaf blade from a #4.5 down to a #4 for faster speed without roll over. Quote
bigspirit Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 There is also a Strike King called the burner, tiny blades for moving it fast. Might be worth a look even though you already got some war eagles. 1 Quote
