Trox Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 This sport is so incredibly mental. Do whatever you need to get your mind right again. You likely didn't start bass fishing by searching for a trophy, I would suggest you go back to where your love began... And I feel like I'm right there with you... When I was younger, all I used to throw was a watermelon senko because I didn't know many other techniques, or any really. Recently however, I've kind of gotten back to that, but have added dropshots, shaky heads, etc, because I have developed the same confidence in those that I had back then with the senko... Sometime (speaking to myself), you just have to put down the big jig and go catch some fish. 2 Quote

Its hard not to get spun out having 10 rods laying there cycling thru technique after technique. Lately I've spent a bunch of time throwing a fluke,a popper and a senko...catching alot of fish and having a good easy going time doing it. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 14, 2022 Super User Posted July 14, 2022 It does the soul good to stick something every once & a while. It also helps keep your hook setting timing down. 3 1 Quote

I believe A-Jay, Catt, Dwight Hottle, and a few more might remember my earlier post. I've been doing this on every trip this year so far, and I haven't connected with a truly large fish yet. What I've realized is that I've burned myself out to this point. Last trip, I took a breather from the big bass hunting. I took a med spin rod, some smaller inline spinners, 4" plastic worms, small swim baits and one smaller top water popper. I ran the moss edges on my lake, and caught not only bass, but bream and crappie also. This was a good thing to do. Just go and catch some fish. Period. I'll continue pursuing big fish soon. If you become obsessed with a certain thing in your fishing, you can become burned out when it doesn't happen after so many trips. Now, I'll get back to hunting big bass, with a new outlook. Taking a breather helped out immensely. If you don’t mind me asking, why do you think you haven’t caught the larger fish you’re targeting? Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 18, 2022 Super User Posted July 18, 2022 Being at the right place and time with the right lure presentation helps when big bass are where you are fishing. There is a lot of planning and luck involved. Tom 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted August 19, 2022 Super User Posted August 19, 2022 I went pretty hard last year and it paid off but this year I made an effort to ease back and focus on other things. And you're right it's fun to just go out sometimes with no expectations and junk fish. One of my better days this summer was just going out on a busy afternoon for a few hours. I just fished a dropshot, no electronics, just enjoying being on the water. Ended up catching some good fish though. When I'm in the "hunt" for that next big fish it's an itch I can't shake and can make me laser focused on just that where I let my other interests fall to the side. It's fun but definitely takes a toll. 2 1 Quote

I'm here right now big time, been going hard for about 5 weeks, but I got a 8lb fish two weeks ago, and now I fish every single day, sometimes twice a day trying to get another 10lb fish, and top my PB. Not sure what I'll do once I hit my goal. I have OCD so this is kind of normal for me. I'm much happier when I'm fired up over something and obsessing over a goal in life than when I'm not. I do tend to neglect many things in my life when I'm going balls to the wall over something though. 1 Quote
