Well, the left lane is not very scenic. Thanks

Chess.com is so judgmental. It tells me that this move is a blunder, but I won the game. So who really blundered? Me or your all-knowing analysis?

I like you Stewart. You're not like the other kids, here in the trailer park.

I agree that sometimes chess.com engine analysis is weird but in this case while your move was a “blunder” in the engine’s eyes, your opponent didn’t see the correct course of action, and to your benefit.

At the least, you lose your LSB with fxg6 and you just eat that loss. That is the so called “blunder” the chess.com engine is referring to — losing your LSB. It’s survivable but puts you a bit behind the 8 ball.

At worst, you lose your LSB and your queen. The pawn on f6 that just took your LSB should not be taken. It would be taken by the knight without a thought in a blitz game. I might have instinctually done that if I didn’t take a some time to look. If black decides to retaliate with Nxg6, and if I were white, I’d beg my opponent to do that because I’d respond with Rxe6. Ouch. You’d practically be forced to play Qxe6 and then white take your queen with Bxe6.

White giving up a rook and pawn (6) for a queen and bishop (12) is a decent exchange.

I am no chess expert, I don’t even have a rating, but I did save a 15% by switching to Geico ?

Chess is an awesome game. ?

Thanks. I think what happened is opponent did not take my LSB and instead took my hanging knight. Then I put rook to h4 at some point and opponent brought queen into game too early at one point.

This game is not my proudest moment. Not sure what I was thinking. When I’ve played better, it’s when generally I don’t make any blunders and no more than 1 mistake, I position my pieces aimed toward the king or just generally developed, and I look for weaknesses to exploit. Not making any blunders or many mistakes though doesn’t mean that I won’t sacrifice pieces though, and I often do. It’s just that I hope my sacrifices are only minor inaccuracies or at the very best, brilliancies. I like making unpredictable moves because then the opponent has to recalculate everything on my terms. Sometimes I just play a “normal” chess game though.

Sometimes I gotta take a moment and appreciate how many things seem to want me to have a bad day, and then I still go ahead and have a good day anyways.

The longer this break from fishing extends, the more I realize that I fished in part to escape from some things, and not all of the things that I wanted to escape from are bad.

anyone else know what I’m talking about?

I have some songs that will instantly take me back in time and revive old feelings. I wonder if that’s why older folks seem to often listen to the music they grew up with.

I can listen to a song and remember driving back after catching my PB.

Can listen to another and remember prom night

Can listen to another and remember heading to go out fishing in early fall NY on my magic Menderchuck ponds.

i remember the song that was playing when my first son was conceived. i'll spare you all the details on that one. it's pretty funny though, looking back on it.

i tried to raise him properly right off the bat.  when i brought him home from the hospital, we played most of  judas priest's "screaming for vengance" album  in the car, for the ride home. then, while introducing him to the in laws, ozzy's "diary of a madman" album

hearing fleetwood mac's "you can go your own way" makes me remember boy scout initiation.

i managed to sneak in the soundtrack  to crouching tiger/hidden dragon during my reception for marriage #2.

listening to black sabbath always makes me think of h.p. lovecraft, because the first time i read the cthulu stories,  sabbath was on heavy rotation in my room

I played a really clean Queen’s Gambit game, central variation. I know the opening really well and different ways to trap my opponent.

checkmating with pawn and queen, that’s awesome.

personally I like queen pawn games, but I admit I have not focused to go too deep into any main lines and just rely on developing my pieces. There is good and bad with this approach and unfortunately, the drawback/bad with this is you can fall into traps as you have stated.

I don’t have an official rating but it’s probably around 1200. My chess.com online rating is higher, but that’s because I leave no stone unturned and explore many possibilities before making a move. As a result, I have won more than I’ve lost even against stronger players willing to play me.  Blitz however, it’s probably about 1200 too. I have lost more games than I have won, especially at chess.com. I no longer play blitz there (5 min games) because my internet connection sux and it’s not fair to my opponent, when I lose my connection and it looks like I abandoned the game. Or worse lose that way in a game I’m winning, lol.

My philosophical thought of the day: being as “put together” as possible is a good goal to have

By this I mean stable emotionally, physically, socially, organizationally, etc. just generally having yourself together and knowing how to deal with your strengths as well as weaknesses
