They are the same design as the alphas 800 without the pinion double support.  These are a higher end platform trickling down rather than trying to put lipstick on a tatula ct.  And that's a good thing.

I suppose but I haven't found any performance upgrades to them. I tinker with my reels extensively and I haven't found any significant performance upgrade over the Tatula SVs until you get to the new Zillions. I have 2 Tatula CTs I put upgraded bearings and sv spools and they work just as well as an SV. I prefer a bigger reel in my hands though, so I realize I am an outlier. 

 

The only Daiwa reel I have that I really don't like is the Tatula 300. I mean, it's OK, but I find myself throwing big swimbaits on a Coastal 200 and a lexa hd 300 more than it...It surely isn't a reel I would consider in the $290 category.

The appeal of the little ones is the small size.  I suppose the 70 sv will cast lighter baits better than a tatula sv with the shorter and more narrow spool making it lighter.  As far as tatula 300s go, I don't have one but I plan on getting one for a swimbait rod and paying under $200 from AE instead of full sticker like Hank Hill.  At nearly $300 it's not a bad buy but would cross ship with other reels at that point.

Yeah, I got it when it first came out, on sale, for like 185 or something. I would trade it straight up for a new style Lexa HD 300.

Isn't the new style lexa with the t wing a tatula 300?  Man, they look the same.  I actually recently got an old lexa 300 and like it.  It's long but it's solid.

I forgot they made a t-wing one recenyly too. I actually meant the last generation(off-grey) with an updated anti-reverse clutch. I also have the bluish one and it's nice but they are known for having clutch issues.

 

I love going on the Australian Daiwa site and looking at all the different models they have...

Daiwa scandinavia has some as well.  A site called waveinn will sell them to you.  You gotta like purple though.

It's a Tat 300 built for the salt. Stainless steel pinion, crbbs, and a power handle.

They obviously lied about the hyper design concept, no double bearing support on the pinion gear, I did like the color but I will stick with the alphas sv 800.

Never trust daiwa US.  Always go to the japanese site for reel info.  The English language reel descriptions on the US site are frequently incorrect to the point of being untrustworthy.

The problem is you can see from the part’s diagram that was posted that it doesn’t have that feature and this model is only sold here.

Ended up picking up a coastal 80H , going to use it for frogs, very smooth and powerful reel, the deep spool holds plenty of 50lb fx2 braid, and the 100m handle comes in handy. Casting performance is excellent the brakes don’t feel choked off like the sv reels.
