I could be completely wrong but I can’t imagine It being THAT much better than my Dobyns DX (paid under $300) or my Destroyer (paid $300 which is the most expensive Rod I have). Maybe It is. I’ll never find out! Lol At $720, no. It was probably the Conquest (904c?). There are rare occasions when I have seen them for $500-$550. At that price, I might but I haven't been a big fan of the Conquest. I have liked the NRX lines better. Can't explain it, just a personal feel. I have a P5 Super Destroyer and it almost as sensitive as the NRX but not quite. I also like the feel of the NRX better but a Destroyer for $300, that changes my perspective on it quite a bit. I think the only advantage to G. Loomis would be their warranty and service. 1 Quote

I put some 25c road tires on my 9 speed Sora Aluminum Cyclocross bike (old school with rim brakes) and watched the DI2 high end carbon and Ti crowd go backwards on the hills Yesterday. 46/12 was a little small for the downhills, but not a huge deal, brakes were even rubbing just a tad, couldn't find my Park blue spoke wrench in the AM. 1 Quote

Shimano took a jdm blank from the '16 poison glorious and sent them to loomis to design and build the rods. IMO, the colaboration was backwards, and Loomis should have sent blanks to Japan for Shimano to design and build. If you want to try a loomis....nrx or glx is the way to go. Quote

Yeah, I like a smallish gear on the flats, but roads around here are very rolly, so you have to power over the humps and get up to speed down the relatively short but steep descents to stay on the wheels of the front group without opening gaps. Like I said, a tad small but doable. I raced road with a 53/13 top gear and that was plenty. We always get guys in the shop with " I need a 56 so I can go faster" cracks me up. 1 Quote

padon Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 like someone else said, diminishing returns, they are great rods no doubt but are they 2 and a half times better than an expride or legend tournament? twice as good as a destroyer ? probably not. fortunately for those that buy them this is fishing and being rational doesnt matter.
