Kellss Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 There are huge expanses of grass, like the stuff in the photo, on my home lake. Looking for some tips on how to approach these areas (i.e. what lures to use, any specific angles to approach it at, etc.). The lake is in southern Canada (think lakes in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, etc.) and is dominated equally by smallmouth and largemouth. 1 Quote
Cbump Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I would throw Chatterbait and weightless senko. Probably a weedless rigged keitech underspin as well. 3 Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Go with the the lay of the grass with a willow blade spinnerbait. If topwater is your preference, a buzzbait, or toad. For a bottom presentation, fish a swim jig on the bottom, or a T-rig, but peg the sinker. 4 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 10, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 10, 2022 I look for stuff like that! Other than what’s already been said, I’d throw a Speed Worm or Cut R right through it Mike 3 Quote

From my time fishing Oneida, I remember well that any places where the grass is interrupted by some other hard bottom like rock is a good place to fish, as well as anywhere there are significant depth changes, or where the grass mats up. Your lake may be similar 1 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 10, 2022 Super User Posted July 10, 2022 I'd be pulling a swim jig through that grass. 4 Quote
