So maybe its just because I'm an unsophisticated slob but I don't get the appeal. I love music and I love movies..but together they don't get it done for me. Perhaps I'm missing something.

My wife and I both agree, we hate musicals too. Love music, especially live music, love good movies too. No need to to combine the two.

Yeah,  I have to agree.  A good movie is realistic.  The characters seem real.  Nothing is real about a musical.  How often in real life does music start playing from nowhere and everyone around you starts singing and dancing.

I do like a good soundtrack in a movie.  American Graffiti is a great example.

Have you been to a Broadway show? Nothing realistic about them but very entertaining.

I like musicals.  If you are ever near Amarillo TX in the summer you should see the musical that’s put on in the Palo Dura Canyon.

Yes and I find musicals on stage more appealing.   Les Misérables on Broadway was amazing.

I’d rather spend a night in jail than attend a musical.

The thing about musicals is that you’d have to watch them a million times so that the songs settle in your brain. Only then will appreciation be attained my young padawan, lol.

Start with classics:

Singing in the Rain

Sound of Music

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Mary Poppins

Hello Dolly

”A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way, lol.”

I love musicals.  it takes some imagination and an open mind.  you have to mentally fill in the blanks created by live actors acting and singing.

I dont sing showtunes or anything, but I have seen most of the huge broadway productions.  I have been trying to find Hamilton tickets for my wife's birthday.

this is single-handedly the most fun about being alive - we all get to like and dislike ANYTHING on the planet.  there is not right or wrong here.  some people hate bass fishing.  hahah..  you do you.  if you find wrong in it..it is more about you.  haha..  live and let live and enjoy exactly what you want to enjoy.  no pressure.

Cats & Phantom of the Opera were pretty good on Broadway.

The Wizard of Oz was a musical...as was:

Grease, Oklahoma,

Hello, Dolly,

West Side Story, The Sound of Music,

My Fair Lady, Chicago, Cats, Wicked, Stomp...etc...etc

and then you have the animated ones...

The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The little Mermaid, Dumbo, Cinderella, Frozen

So I guess I'm a fan.

I don't mind them, I won't go out of my way to see one, but I have seen a few.

Chicago was one of my favs. My then girl friend, now wife went to see it. Jasmine Guy had the leading role. Jasmine Guy played Whitley Gilbert along side Lisa Bonet in the Cosby spin-off A Different World.

Smokey Joe's Cafe was another fun one to watch along with Queen Musical, We Will Rock You. That was great if you're into music by Queen.

I've played in a ton of pit orchestras. I was a drummer for hire for high school musicals. That's fun, but going to see them isn't really my thing.

Funny responses.

Yeah I'm not classy enough to attend a musical.

I'd rather be in a field with my camo hat on listening to Kenny Chesney while chewing tobacco. ?

But, seriously,  I have enjoyed the few I've seen on Broadway.   I guess I thought Newsies was as good as any of the bigger hits.

I didn't think I would like them but they are entertaining and I would rather see one than sit in a movie theater.  I just picked up some outrageously expensive tickets to see Hamilton on the Broadway in Richmond tour.  We have seen a few other ones and they are always a good evening.  We also try and hit at least one of the Christmas ones each year with the kids, last one we saw was frosty.
