Basshunter90 Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Had em last fall in my yard for the first time and now they reappeared a few weeks ago. Destroying the grass and yard fast. How do you get rid of em? Tried the grub bait and ultrasonic mole deterrent spikes so far with no luck. Just put down a grub killer, hoping that works Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 9, 2022 Super User Posted July 9, 2022 I use Motomco poison worms. https://www.google.com/search?q=motomco+mole+killer&rlz=1C9BKJA_enUS855US855&oq=motomco&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j46i199i465i512j0i512l4.6195j0j7&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=EdXErZFOfeU40M Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 9, 2022 Super User Posted July 9, 2022 I've heard from a neighbor that juicy fruit gum, chewed, and placed in holes where their runs begin/end will help. Apparently they cannot digest juicy fruit and it causes them to die. Might be painful, I do not know. Never done it in my yard before. 1 1 Quote
VolFan Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 @TnRiver46 wait for it… Others- Rescue a terrier. You might have to fix some small holes but they’ll bring you the bodies. Quote

Hahahahah. moles are a lot easier when you’re trapping them on the clock, not after hours. I’ve got moles at home I just let the dogs chase, they sure enjoy it . I will trap them if they mess up the front yard but they can run into the dog lot all they want I use harpoon traps and scissor traps, they will catch the moles if you are diligent enough. Find long straight runs and set on them, also stomp down everything and monitor new/fresh tunnels 3 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted July 9, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 9, 2022 I’ve had good luck with the ultrasonic spikes. I always knew when the batteries died because they came right back. ? Quote

padlin Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 I tried most of the ideas mentioned above with limited results at best. I ended up doing the grub killer for a couple years, by the way, they like worms best, then running over the tunnels with the tractor every day. After awhile they moved on to the neighbors. Had a cat years ago that would sit on the picnic table watching for them, caught way more then I did. Skunks are worse. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 9, 2022 Super User Posted July 9, 2022 Been doing battle with moles for many years. In the beginning I tried a variety of 'methods'. Failed miserably. Finally went for this deal. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTVMF4H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews Only thing that works for me. I have 5 traps and they have accounted for well over 100 kills in the past few years. Some days it's pretty ugly (in a good way). I know I will never eliminate them but controlling them a bit helps my sanity & my lawn. Some tips to make the most effective use of these traps: Move them often. I usually moved the traps at least once a day (if not twice) while walking a dog. Place the traps on the newest and most active feeding tunnel. I usually scouted the whole property before determining where to place them. Smash down all the other tunnels you are not actively trapping so you can track new activity. If the activity looks like tree branches then place the trap in one of the forks of the branch. Moles often go back and forth so they don't have to dig new tunnels. Wear a clean disposable glove when touching the trap. If you touch a trap with your bare hand or your dog touched it then spray it down with scent killing spray like that used for deer hunting. Moles can smell everything. Don't go chasing volcanoes. While they are enticing, the holes are vertical and the moles rarely get close to the top. I did get one right next to a volcano but there were many, many other attempts that were futile. Patience and persistence. It was over three weeks before I caught my first mole and many periods where it was nearly a month between catches. It is also frustrating when you get a mole and then a new one moves in. Currently most of the moles are gone so mostly I check the perimeters for any new activity. More traps and more movement will result in faster results. I started with two traps and couldn't keep up. I bought three more and started making progress. Keep in mind that I moved them once or twice a day. It's a war ! Good Luck A-Jay 1 1 Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Years ago I was mowing the yard and my wife was tending to the small section of vegetables we had planted. Our stone cold rabbit catcher/killing blue-tick beagle Dixie was running around. I noticed my wife running toward our storage building wide open, fling open the door, grab a shovel and run back where she came from. Dixie was engaged with what I thought was probably a snake. Nothing came into our yard that Dixie didnt know about about I turned off the blades on the mower threw it into 7th gear and headed their way.I watched as my wife slammed the shovel down 8-10 times which reminded me of the old school WWF wrestling matches when a chair was used. When I got to her I found out it was a mole that Dixie had caught. I asked my wife why she hit it so many times and she replied she wanted to make sure it was dead and didnt suffer! At the time my wife used to watch tons of crime/murder mystery shows so I have no doubts whats she capable of if I mess up! Shes red-headed too! 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 9, 2022 Super User Posted July 9, 2022 If you are looking for a long range solution check out Milky Spore disease. I have it all over my yard and only get moles around the edges, that’s where I usr the Motomco. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 9, 2022 Super User Posted July 9, 2022 Just got another one ~ This one was done in by The Gopher Hawk ~ Somewhat different trap design but still mostly effective. Fresh tunnels are the secret sauce. My dog will often help point them out. A-Jay Quote
BigAngus752 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 When I was a kid my dad used to put two lawn chairs in the yard near the mole mounds and set a loaded .22 on my lap. We sat there perfectly quiet as the sun was setting. If you are quiet and you listen hard you can hear them eating and digging at the end of their tunnel. We would hear which tunnel they were in, I'd fire one shot into the very end of the tunnel, and dad would dig out a dead mole with a shovel. We killed at least 10-15 moles this way. It made for a nice evening sitting outside with dad when I was 10 or 11 years old. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 10, 2022 Super User Posted July 10, 2022 If the mole runs are out in the open get a garden hose hooked up. Then stomp down the runs so that they are flat with the grade of the ground. Shove one end of the hose into a mole mound and turn on the water. If the moles are still in the run they will try and surface to get out of the water. If the mole runs go under something like a deck then you're going to have problems. You'll just have to wait until they work their way out. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 12, 2022 Super User Posted July 12, 2022 Our company has a mole program. We bait active tunnels with “ Talprin” , which is a worm coated with a toxin. Then we treat with “ Acelyprin” Not sure if that’s correct spelling. It’s a grubicide and deterrant. We treat every other month and it works well. Expensive, but it works well. Our cat gets one every now and then. She brought in two one time. We did not know at first. After a few days…. We knew.? 1 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 13, 2022 Super User Posted July 13, 2022 I helped save a young ladies Christmas one time by finding a big ol dead possum under her house. She had company coming in a few days. After I found it , I asked her if she wanted to see it. Her answer was “ That’s ok “ ! ? 1 Quote
