I like it.  I like it a lot on paper.  I would get the attachable battery I think.  but hot-darn it is expensive!!  like  trolling motor money!!

Anyone using one?  you love it?

I thought about it.  But I have a push pole for anchoring, and I came to realize that I really need the ability to position it, as otherwise, my kayak will be at the mercy of the wind.  Maybe if you got two, one at the bow and one at the stern, it might work for me.  But then you've got to deal with the pole sticking up on your bow.

Also, I'm most frequently trying to anchor in 20+ ft of water, and it wouldn't do me much good there.  There are only a few lakes I take my anchor pole with me anymore.  However, a lot of people do swear by them, so they've got to be good for some people.  I'm just rarely fishing under the right conditions to make it a good option for me.

you are probably correct on all counts.  i seem to be in deeper waters often.  thanks for reality check.

I don’t have a kayak but I spent $3500 on power poles when I bought a new boat.  About the only time I used them was to anchor for lunch in the back of a cove as I am seldom shallow enough for them to work.  They now live in Houston Texas.

I have one that came with a kayak I got a great deal on a few years ago.  I've since sold the kayak for what I paid for it but put the Micro Anchor on my aluminum boat.  It works great but I probably wouldn't have spent the money to buy one new.  On my boat, it can really only be used in about 5 feet of water or less.  Also, I bought the battery pack for it and that works great, too.  I usually get out to fish every weekend but I only have to charge that battery a few times a year.

Some will say it's an issue, but before I had the Micro Anchor, I just used a 6' dowel rod sharpened on one end with a bicycle handle grip on the other and put it through a scupper hole.  It cost me about $15 to make and worked great.  I still use it with my current kayak.  But, if there are seams in your scupper holes, it's probably not an advisable method as it may cause the seam to crack.

No problem, there is so many kayak accessory companies popping up its hard to keep up with them all. I bought the sidetrack paddle holder from them, they make nice stuff thats fairly priced and are fairly local to me TN. Another great guy to deal with is 3dyak, hes on FB only though.

I had one on my kayak and loved it, especially for river fishing. The micro pole performed flawlessly. I wired mine to the same battery as the trolling motor.

My problem was that I hated kayak fishing. Sold the yak, kept the micro pole and put it on my jon boat.

If you get it let me know how you like it. Im thinking about buying myself but Im also thinking of buying a Nucanoe Unlimited and adding a Xi3 and I wouldn't need it.

In my experience with a GPS trolling motor, there is still a need for a shallow water anchor.  spot lock doesn't work great in really shallow water.  a 6ft anchor pole is only going to work up to about 4.5' of water.  So it comes down to what type of fishing you are doing.  I've also heard those motorguide motors can go a little crazy trying to hold a spot because kayaks are so light.

If i didn't have anything else to spend money on i would get one but i think my stakeout pole and anchor trolley will actually keep me facing ther direction i want to be facing.

YakGagdet is local to me. One of the owners of YakGadget is part owner of our local shop. We had a fishing expo back in January and they set up a booth and I bought one for my Hobie PA and the way it screws in and then attaches to the rear rail, it's not going anywhere. I love mine and one less battery to charge. I would suggest getting their Sidewinder I think it's called to manage your line.

How does it work?  The plate holds the pole in place and you have a rope to pull it up out of the water?  Release the rope and the weight of the pole holds it in the bottom I guess.

I’ve thought about a micro power pole for shallow situations. I have an autopilot with spotlock so don’t need it a lot of the time. But there are definitely times in shallow water and grass that I want to lock into a spot and pick apart the cover.  The cost is too much though to justify. I’ve thought about a stakeout pole and replace my paddle but I’m not there yet.

The pole has a collar on the bottom with the rope attached and a cleat to hold the rope when in the up position. A collar at the top keeps the pole from coming all the way out. They also have a hand crank similar to the anchor wizard. Here is a video that shows it around the 8:00 minute mark.

thanks.  That's what I was picturing in my head but good to see it.  Still a good bit of money to spend on something I will only use occasionally but I might be able to justify it.
