Before I took up fly fishing, though I still use them when I step over to the dark side and pull out my spinning gear.  

Top water-  it's a toss up between a Hula Popper and a Jitterbug.

Subsurface- Senko,  though the Fin-s would be second

Creme 8'' scoundrels, Bagley's DDKB2  Killer bees, 2'', double deep!  Awesome summertime riverbank lure for downed tree tops.

That old school  Larew Salt Craw pitched to cover with a 5/16th ounce weight will catch limits . That seems like to much weight for some folks but it will get bit . Black and chartteuse in the spring ,  black and blue when the water warms and clears up a bit .

mepps 0 or 1......... sometimes with the hair tied on treble. the new ones seem to be identical to my 50 year old mepps.... many other old time lures seem to be not as well made nowadays, or made of different materials than in the old daze

I always loved the spinnerbait and 4" T-Rig grub combination. 

 

Spinnerbait was always a short arm version, usually a Colorado blade. If fish rolled on it, you followed up with a grub.
