I recently sold off all of my curado and citica i's and replaced them with new curado k's.

I've noticed you really have to have the drag essentially all the way tight or you can pull line off pretty easily.

Is this normal? I can't imagine I got a bunch of lemons but it doesn't seem right. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, what lb test would you use for a big worm setup? I like 10" power worms with 3/8 oz tungsten bullet.

Thanks,

Billy

If it used reels I would say someone didn’t install key washer right. It supposed too look like () but brand new and multiple reels from Shimano???? You mentioned you sold Curado so I assume you know what you are talking about. If you bought from local, replacement might be easier, if you buy online, you can check key washer first before get into a hassle of return/refund by taking off handle and star drag.

Bring them all back and get new ones or a refund.

Yeah, except there is a reely :) good chance there is nothing wrong with them, maybe make sure first?...

Oddly I noticed this on my K yesterday as well. The drag is still normal and can be gradually increased except there's a lot of "dead drag" where the clicker clicks but theres no drag at all. To be fair though, my Shimanos have considerably more of that than my Daiwas. What you're describing sounds a little more extreme though.

I have one K (8:1) and don’t have that problem. When I lock it, it stays locked but with just a very slight slip which is fine as I always use my thumb anyway.

I have two and neither of them have this issue.

Instead of pulling line, try putting your thumb on the spool and turning the handle. See how much pressure it takes to turn it. If the line slips and not the spool, you should redo your line. There is also the chance that the drag has been over tightened on them and the cup washers are flattened. This will reduce the drag to almost nothing.
