Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 6, 2022 Super User Posted July 6, 2022 The local pond near me is definitely affected by the drought we’ve been experiencing. A few weeks ago it had large mats of algae on top. We were back home in Maryland for almost a week and came back yesterday. I drove past the pond and saw it now looks like this. I do not see any large floating mats of algae (only a few small ones). But it is bright green. In three years I’ve never seen it look like this. It’s also much lower than I’ve ever seen it. I hope to go fishing on Friday. But I’m not sure what it will be like. I know the water temp has to be very high (my pool is 90°). Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 6, 2022 Author Super User Posted July 6, 2022 Umm, no lol! It was like that. Now it looks like the Chicago River on St. Paddy’s Day. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 6, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2022 That's what the water in most of our lakes look like mid summer. That's when the blue baits really seem to shine. 2 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Happens to several lakes in this area every year. Fish don't seem to care. Go gettum. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 7, 2022 Super User Posted July 7, 2022 That's just typical pond water in SC. If you really dislike it, it's probably temporary. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 7, 2022 Author Super User Posted July 7, 2022 I’ll find out Friday morning! Quote
BillP Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 The Thames river in my area does the same thing every summer. Quote

So maybe the solution is to get drunk on beer and pee in it. The lack of rain has really aggravated the situation around me. We are expecting 2 inches tomorrow, so hopefully that will help. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 8, 2022 Author Super User Posted July 8, 2022 So, fished from 6:45 to 10:00. Had two missed strikes on a Senko TR and something small hit a squarebill about 2’ from my boat. That was it until my last cast, when a humongous 10” bass whacked a #297 Senko TR. Just before I left, I saw a pickup with a 16’ aluminum boat on a trailer park behind my truck. The boat had a small outboard on it. I thought “is this guy really going to try and launch that boat here?” Turns out he works for the Parks Dept. and was treating the pond with algaecide. Quote
