Super User Jig Man Posted July 6, 2022 Super User Posted July 6, 2022 I recently sold a rod to a guy in Alabama. I had a pvc tube to put it in. I packed it up and went to the UPS store expecting to pay around $40 for shipping. They measured it and weighed it then told me that shipping would be $248.00. I ran screaming from the store. I drove to the USPS office where I got it shipped, including extra insurance, for $32.00. Is this a normal thing with UPS being so expensive? 1 Quote

QED Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 UPS stores may be independent franchises that are not operated by UPS itself, so their pricing for shipment and even shipping containers/materials can be more expensive than one would expect. 2 Quote
mrpao Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Even shipping at USPS has gone up. Lady there told me anything over 30" is oversized now. Last two rods i shipped out were $38 and $34. That wasn't even going to the west coast. It used to normally cost $17 to $29 only. Shipping cheaper rods is not even worth it anymore. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I always ship rods with USPS, shipping cost usually anywhere from $10-25 depending on rod value/insurance. I had a Daiwa Tatula rod that one of the guides came out of the wrap/epoxy, I shipped it from here in Nebraska to California to Daiwa Corp for under $10.00. I also use Pirate Ship for a majority of my shipping so I usually get discounted prices, I always keep a few rod tubes around just in case or if I decide to sell or try something different. Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted July 8, 2022 Super User Posted July 8, 2022 I have about 9 rods I need to sell, it's really not worth it. Quote
