newriverfisherman1953 Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 I keep having trouble with my gas line. I have a 30 hp Yahama 2 stroke. I use pure gas, no ethanol. I’ve replaced it several times over the year. Went out today and had problems again. When I squeezed the primer bulb, it didn’t fill up. Wouldn’t expand and let me squeeze again. I’ve bought Yamaha sets and I’ve made up my own from parts. Can’t seem to get one to last more than a year or so. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 6, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2022 I had better luck going to an auto parts store and buying Gas line by the foot , buying one of their primers and some hose clamps and building my own . For some reason the pre assembled ones didn’t work as well 2 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted July 6, 2022 Author Posted July 6, 2022 Yeah that’s what I did last time. That’s what I’m having trouble with now. Guess I’ll make a new one, but this one is only a couple years old. I’ve checked and all the clamps are tight. I just can’t figure out why they don’t last any longer. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted July 6, 2022 Super User Posted July 6, 2022 Are you storing the boat outside and uncovered? My guess is the UV light is eating the rubber. Or maybe it's the ozone or other chemicals in the air or rain. They'll do a number on rubber as well, sometimes. If so, I'd either try covering the whole boat, or at least covering that section of it. Then again, I've never had much luck with boat covers lasting more than two years or so, if they sit outside in the sun. So you might be better off just considering this routine, yearly maintenance, as it would be cheaper than buying a new cover. Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted July 6, 2022 Author Posted July 6, 2022 No the boat is stored in a building all the time. After each trip I unhook the gas line from the motor and run it till it dies. Of course, the line still has gas in it but I always like to run the carburetor dry. I really don’t remember having this much trouble with the original line, but that was years ago. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 6, 2022 Super User Posted July 6, 2022 Sounds like some type of obstruction. Just spit ballin here, but maybe some crud in the tank that's getting into the line? Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted July 6, 2022 Author Posted July 6, 2022 Yeah maybe. I’ll take a closer look when I replace the line in a few days. Thanks. 1 Quote

Super User webertime Posted July 13, 2022 Super User Posted July 13, 2022 Next time you install lines put on a fuel/water separator. Junk in the tank might be jacking up your good fuel. 2 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted July 21, 2022 Author Posted July 21, 2022 Got it fixed yesterday. The fitting on my tank was worn and out of round. Bought a new six gallon tank and connected with a barn fitting. I eliminated the disconnect there. Worked great yesterday evening. That’s supposed to be a barb fitting above! 1 Quote
Alex from GA Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 You applied the KISS principle. I do the same with the fitting on the engine also, right to the pump through a filter. 1 Quote
