Super User T-Billy Posted July 5, 2022 Super User Posted July 5, 2022 I vote snelled straight shank flippin hook for creatures and most other baits. My hook and land percentage went through the roof when I switched to them. They also make your bait land right side up due to the cam action created by the Snell. 1 Quote

Ditto I tie a snell for all bottom presentations regardless of the bait. Regarding the video, I completely agree. I read somewhere that a 3/0 hook was recommended for a Senko which fir me is way to small for exactly the reasons given. I always use a 4/0 ewg and works for me. As far as overall hook size, I almost always use a hook that some would think to large for the application. Mike 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 5, 2022 Super User Posted July 5, 2022 I tried the straight hook with and without the snell. The way the hook point is positioned in a small soft plastic the point is always about to come through the bait, negating its weedlessness. I was getting hung up more in wood cover than I did with an EWG superline hook. I finally settled on the latter. I still have those flipping hooks and I'd give them a try in vegetation. Quote

Gotta match the hook to the bait. VMC makes 'em all the way down to a size 1 with a keeper on the shank. Quote
