Am I the only one that hates staying in hotels? I have a hard enough time sleeping in my own bed. I cannot sleep in a hotel to save my life. Pillows are awful. Sheets feel terrible, noise everywhere, mattress is too soft, etc. Been in Branson for a few days and I am miserable. Going to Gulf Shores in 2 weeks for 8 days, I'm not sure I will survive.

Not only that, but there is nothing like your own toilet (maybe I miss that more than my bed) :)

BTW, nothing against you @Koz

It's the pen cameras and bed bugs that I truly dislike. ?

No offense taken. When I travel, the last thing I want to do is stay in a hotel, so I look for other options first.

You should stay in better hotels?   I have to admit hotels that cater to bass fisherman aren't the best.   The worst I ever slept in was on the Kissimmee River.  It cost $8 a night and I wouldn't use the bathroom it was so bad. ?

I've done too many hotels, always have trouble sleeping the first night, not too bad after that if it's a decent place.

When it's for vacation I rent a home.

I bring my own pillow, a noise machine, and ear plugs.

My biggest issue is humidity...hotels can be so dry. I get a towel from bathroom, soak in hot water, then place over the HVAC unit...helps create some humidity. And run the shower with hot water, and leave in the bathtub over night.

I sleep in a fair amount of hotels for work. They are generally pretty nice hotels. I sleep A LOT better than I do at home because there is no wife, kid, or dogs to wake me up.

I found that if you use a chain hotel you get a better consistency of accommodation which makes it better because it feels like you have been there before.  For us, the multiple Hampton Hotels are a good balance of cost and quality.  There are always exceptions but I have found that I get the same quality at most every one.  We went on an overnight with some relatives who normally travel with their dog so they made reservations at a pet friendly chain.  The smell of the disinfectant they used to clean the rooms was so strong, I couldn’t sleep.  Lesson learned.  I can’t sleep anymore without earplugs.  Even at home. Especially on the road.

A shot of bourbon, Tylenol PM and a good air conditioner I could probably sleep through a Metallica concert ~

Haha! I think I’ve stayed there before.

Finally a place where I felt like the smartest SOB in the room!

If traveling with  the boat I always try to stay at a B&B. A lot more secure than a big parking lot. As for sleeping I’m usually so tired from fishing or driving I could sleep on rocks with no problem.

My wife and I do a lot of traveling.  We always stay at Hamptons and have never been disappointed.

Wife and I also travel a lot but most of the time it's a resort or Airbnb.

A good day in the sun is a sure fire way of getting a good nights rest.

Hotel ? Only as a last resort.

I don't do much traveling but hotels are always a letdown. I can never sleep in one no matter how nice because the layout and overly sterile appearance remind me of a hospital. About the only place I stay anymore is in a big cabin at one of our county parks...that's as close to being home as it gets. I always sleep fine there.

I'm with you. Want my accustomed bed and facilities, whether trailer, motorhome or...since I'm between RVs, actually considering going to Montana for a month this year with some foam and a sleeping bag in back of my 4Runner...gonna suck big time if temps are high. ?

I fell asleep at a Foghat show, 30 years ago, at a bar. Worked 14 hours, picked up the wife(ex) and went to the show. Had a few beers and I really did fall asleep. Woke up at the end of the show to find the drummer was hitting on her.

And now you all know my Foghat story....

Fair point...but nobody said a hotel is as bad as it gets.

...it must have been a really "Slow Ride" to fall asleep during a concert... ?

You've never stayed at a Motel 6 LOL

I've stopped off at some real seedy motels in my travels. I think I'd rather skip meals and stay in a $100 a night hotel/motel than eat and stay in a $60 night hotel/motel

I hate staying in motels. With all the stories about bedbugs and people running meth labs in the rooms it is too scary for me. With Covid still being a real problem we don't travel for anything more than a day trip. These gas prices have put and end to that too.

I think some of you have stayed in some really shady motels.  The ones I stay in are clean, relatively quiet, have pools, fitness centers, and decent free breakfast.  Some even have a free happy hour in the evening with beer and appetizers.

The nicest hotel I have ever stayed in was in Lima, Peru at the JW Mariott over looking the Pacific Ocean.  I've never seen a breakfast like that either.  The sheets alone were like 10,000 thread count.

I rarely stay anywhere when I'm fishing though.  I almost always day trip and then come home to sleep in my own bed.  I don't trust my boat parked outside in public.  It needs to be in my garage at home.

Precovid I slept in a hotel 80+ nights a year.  I have zero problems and part of me misses it.  Although it is way better now as prekids it was over 150...at least I get to eat well and charge someone else for it all.

The fun part was retiring 2 passports in less than the 10 year span they worked for.  Run out of pages and they aren't valid.
