Cbump Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 What’s your favorite rod for It? I don’t need It, I’m pretty sure I have most techniques covered with what I currently own, but I still want one. Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted July 3, 2022 Super User Posted July 3, 2022 Luckily it's a general purpose reel with gear ratios to cover all bases. I have a 6:1, 8:1 and a 7:1 HD. I don't think it matters too much what rods you put them on but you will love it when you get it. 2 Quote
Cbump Posted July 3, 2022 Author Posted July 3, 2022 I really like throwing jackhammers. Probably my favorite lure. Thinking maybe a Dobyns Champion 734c or Megabass Levante Diablo Spec-R and running 30lb braid. Something I could throw spinnerbaits and maybe 1/4 to 1/2oz jig head with paddle tails. Never even seen a Megabass rod in person though. I DO NOT like glass or real bendy Chatterbait rods fyi. What y’all think? Quote
Bass Rutten Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 18 minutes from I want one to I ordered one, monkey been brushing up on his jiu jitsu I see ? I can’t speak to the two specific rods you mentioned but running braid for chatters I’d stay away from fast rods, I use a dobyns champion 705cb (non-glass, mod-fast) with 30lb sufix 832 braid + copoly leader for 1/2oz, for 3/8oz I use a completely different setup, I like a fast action but with straight copoly for stretch (st croix avid x med/fast). There’s currently a chatterbait rod thread on the front page with many opinions on this subject you may want to check out. As to your main question I use my jdm zillion on a bottom contact rod, a st croix legend mh/fast. 1 Quote
Cbump Posted July 3, 2022 Author Posted July 3, 2022 I was reading up on another forum about the Brent Erhler M-MH XF finesse rod. Might be good for shakey heads and 3/32 twistlocks and fluke/caffeine Shad. They are out of stock on TW though. Quote
Cbump Posted July 3, 2022 Author Posted July 3, 2022 I actually already have the Seth Feider ML jerkbait rod that MIGHT work for that application. Might be too light on power though. Not sure. Quote

It has the longer 100mm handle, 2 bearings per knob and the big foam knobs, but I put cork knobs on mine. It also has brass gears, while the JDM Zillion has aluminum, and a different spool but since I haven't even cast it yet I can't speak on the spool. Other than those minor differences and the color it doesn't really seem any different. I'm not sure what is heavy duty about it. It looks sweet on the Adrena though. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 4, 2022 Super User Posted July 4, 2022 Megabass Evoluzion Super Diablo Type L. This is the 30th Anniversary edition. It is outstanding and fishes as good as it looks. 2 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted July 4, 2022 Super User Posted July 4, 2022 1 minute ago, Cbump said: Really nice! What do you fish with this combo? What line is that? The rod is actually very versatile. I have fished pretty much everything. It works best for Texas rigged soft plastic, paddle tail swimbaits and light jigs but I have used it for jerkbaits and a few crankbaits. Downside it is soft at the tip and extremely sensitive. It makes a crankbait feel sort of strange. As far as the line goes, it's 14lb Sunline BMS Sniper. It is a little stiff but otherwise it's fantastic. It's durable, sensitive, and you can easily see it out of the water, if you like to watch line. I would say it's not for everybody and not for every situation but I would highly recommend it for jigs and soft plastic. I would order it from a Japan website. The US price on this line is really high. Quote
Cbump Posted July 4, 2022 Author Posted July 4, 2022 It looks great. I’ll check It out. How would that rod fish flukes with light weight twist lock hooks? Quote

I would image it would be fine. I usually use a swimbait head around 1/4oz or 3/8oz. On another note, I think it might be overkill for paddle tail baits. For the same price you might be better served for with a G. Loomis NRX+ 844C. I actually bought Evoluzion with a gift card I got for my recent work anniversary and I didn't expect it to be as good or as versatile as it is. The 844C might not be as versatile as the Evoluzion (and the 844C is also a great multi-use rod). It's just as sensitive and comes with a much better warranty. Quote
Cbump Posted July 4, 2022 Author Posted July 4, 2022 Whoa just looked these up. Amazing rods I’m sure but Im probably going to stick to <$300. Probably Levante or Dobyns champions (I get 30% off dobyns). Maybe a Tat Elite with AGS. Quote
Cbump Posted July 4, 2022 Author Posted July 4, 2022 Looked up the line. I could only find It in 82 yards. Did that fill your spool? Quote

Using the standard unweighted Twistlock Light 6/0 I can launch one as far as is practical for 15lb Tatsu. Both fish I connected with tonight hit one rigged that way, and on the drop at the end of bomb casts into thick weeds. At the moment I'd wished I had straight braid spooled on. There was a lot of stretch at that distance, and it took a big swing using a crisp rod and panic reeling to set the hook. Another 20-30 feet farther because of additional weight wouldn't have helped that issue. US Zillion G 7 spd/Ark Essence 7' 6" MHF Quote

No way I can cast 82 yards. I use about 20-30 yards of backing (guessing here) and the 82 yards is fine. I just pick what I have left over from other filler spools that won't completely fill up a reel. 1 Quote

The 30 % military discount is hard to pass up. I strayed recently and bought a heavily discounted Team Lews Signature series that I really like. Ark offers a military discount, but I never inquired about it after the owner confirmed that they offer it. I’d like to try a Daiwa Tatula or an Ark. I’d buy another Lews too. So many good rods between $150 and $300 can make choosing one difficult. Stinks to live in a country where we have to deal with things like this huh? LOL! Happy 4th and God Bless America!!! 2 Quote
Cbump Posted July 4, 2022 Author Posted July 4, 2022 Yes it’s driving me crazy trying to decide! Really hard to pass up a Dobyns DX 742 or 743c for almost $100 off. There’s an Ark limited edition on TW right now. Regular $249 can be had for $170. I really want a pretty rod for this reel. Not just your standard reel seat nut, etc. My problem is that I know I’m going to end up with a duplicate of something I already have. Technique wise Quote
NavyToad Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 For $300 Kistler will build you a pretty rod. 1 Quote
Cbump Posted July 4, 2022 Author Posted July 4, 2022 Know anything about the St Croix Legend tournament bass. “All In” looks good. Quote
