Hi all,

I would like to upgrade the rod (a Okuma EVX crank air rod) that I use for my poppers and crankbaits. While the rod is decent for the money it is not the lightest and most sensitive one.

I would like to be able to throw 1/4 - 3/8 oz poppers and cranks on it with the occasional 1/2oz.
Reel will be a Steez SV TW. Line will braid to 12# mono leader.

I also would prefer a shorter rod ( def. Below 7').

Price range is max of 330 USD. I would like to take advantage of the current sales.

Thanks all for your recommendations!

I use a Qauntum Smoke S3 rod Medium/X fast rated 1/4 - 3/8 but can handle the odd 1/2 ounce. Even though it's X fast once you hook a fish it really gets a good bend in her. I use mine with a Tatula SV for small cranks, poppers, and Finesse swimbaits but it is right at 7ft.

I use the 6'10" M Expride for all my popper fishing and it handles them really well. Primarily both sizes of Yellow Magic, G Splash, Rico's and Pop X/Max. It's also a great jerkbait rod. I wouldn't throw anything but smaller shallow cranks with it but it might be what you're looking for.

My rod for that exact usage is an Ark Lancer Pro 6'10" Medium power, regular action. I routinely use Splash Its, Duo Kabuki 50, KVD 1.0, Pop X and clear up to a Duo Pencil 100 or Giant Dog X. It is really my favorite rod I have.
