ska4fun Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Went kayak fishing yesterday, in spite of strong rain almost all morning, got several decent fishes, using my bass/bfs and mainly my ultra finesse setup: Giant Red Piranhas, Kelberi Peacock Cichlids, Oscar, Pike Characins and several White Piranhas. The effort paid itself, even with several plugs destroyed, LOL. Fight Giant Piranhas (Pygocentrus piraya) in a bass BFS and utra finesse/trout gear is insane. It fight in force and speed, like a Crevalle Jack. Peacock basses don't need any more praise. Consumated fighters Pike Characins, insane little fighters, praised by brazilian Fly anglers. Oscar... If not for the giant Piranhas, It would deliver the most insane fight. It's not size that matters, but the size of the fight inside the fish. White Piranhas... Like a biblic plague, decent fighters, yet consummated lure destroyers. And very hard to grab, because of it's frenzied behavior. Bassnpanfish Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Wow lots of cool fish. Living in Southern California I probably will never catch any of those fish in my lifetime. So colorful! Also, what rod are you using? 1 Quote

It has hooked sideways. The treble hook wasn't puncturing my hand. 2 hours ago, Deleted account said: Hiding from Interpol in the Amazon are we?... Quite not, LOL! Missed my location for just some 3000 miles. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 3, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 3, 2022 I can't make my eyes see it. The fish is hooked in the side, I see that. Then it also looks like the front and back treble are both in your hand. Even looks like the front treble is pulling on the skin ? Quote

Thats why I do once a week saltwater(deep sea) to have some more actions. some days I cast for 4 hours from the bank and have only one bass. some day if lucky ill have 6 or 7 bass all day when I am on float tube or boat. It is really challenging with lake pressure and weather in SoCal. Quote

As a recent socal to sofl transplant, you would be surprised how easy it would be to get on a plane and catch peas here, i wish i knew this much sooner. If you can catch bass in urban socal lakes or catch halibut off the beach in socal you will be absolutely stacking peas and all sorts of other fish in a few hours in FL. Peas fight similar to calicos or spotties imho.
