newyorktoiowa57 Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 I am planning to get one of these for targeting snook from the jetty, to pair with a diawa 3000 sized reel., probably the legalis. I've heard these are more moderate than expected and to potentially step up in power. Should I get a medium or a medium heavy? I will mostly be throwing little paddletails on jigheads(up to 1/4) or small belly weighted hooks on this setup. I am leaning towards the medium heavy at the moment. Does anyone have any thoughts? Super User MN Fisher Posted July 2, 2022 Super User Posted July 2, 2022 I'm confused - are you talking the St Croix Avid-X or the Daiwa Aird-X? I don't know of an Arid-X rod. Quote

Go with the Medium - the Medium-Heavy is too much rod for the small baits you're planning on tossing. They are a bit more Moderate than a true fast....but more of Mod-Fast than a true Mod. This is from experience - I own a 6'6" Aird-X M/F spinning with a 2500 size reel on - it's one of my shore rigs. Quote

newyorktoiowa57 Posted July 2, 2022 Author Posted July 2, 2022 I was able to find the rods in a local store, and felt that the medium was not powerful enough, and the MH was too stiff. I ended up getting a different rod, a TFO Pro-S medium, which was basically inbetween the M and MH Aird X. I'm glad I was able to handle the rods in a store. It can be very hard to make a decision without handling the product. 1 Quote
Cbump Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 I own two of these and until this thread always thought they were Arid-X. 1 Quote
