jimanchower Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 After a few adult beverages the other night I clicked "buy" on a new Destroyer X-Bites. I hope it works out better than my Levante Perfect Pitch impulse purchase. I haven't even run line through that one yet. I should have returned it. I was originally looking at an NRX+ 873C CRR, but it was out of stock so I thought I'd try the X-Bites. Interested to see how the X-Bites fits in with my Expride 7'2" MH/F. I'm guessing a little lighter, a little slower, and a little more power? Quote
813basstard Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 No idea about anything you bought but I’ve learned once at a certain level of consumption, turn off all electronic devices. Especially, most importantly, the cell phone. He’s a traitor after midnight… 1 2 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted July 2, 2022 Super User Posted July 2, 2022 The X-Bites is a true bottom contact rod. It's fast, light and very sensitive. To me a 1/4oz t-rig to a 3/8oz jig and trailer are in it's wheelhouse. I haven't used it with anything heavier than that but it doesn't do well going much lighter. It is definitely not a moving bait rod. I haven't fished that particular Expride but I would imagine the X-Bites is faster and more powerful. If you need a true MH bottom contact rod the X-Bites is a great choice. 2 Quote
Rodney Smith Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 I’ve seen that rod described as a “finesse jig” rod. In my opinion the 873CRR is a more versatile rod. I’m sure the x-bites is a sweet rod though. Quote

I have heard that is sort of a do all rod for things 1/2oz and up to 1.25oz. As far as impulse buys go, I have several that I gave into..... like a Levante Jerkbait Special and a Lew's BB1 (I like this combo) and as of last night, I have a Daiwa Silver Wolf and about $150 in baits head my way. I don't need any of it but now I have to find a rod. Quote

padon Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 it happens. i got into the vodka one night on vacation and spent 500 at tackle warehouse on a rod and some baits, it all worked out. i like the rod and you can never have too many baits. 1 Quote
jimanchower Posted July 6, 2022 Author Posted July 6, 2022 I got the X-Bites in today and here are my quick impressions based on fiddling around with it and a couple of other rods on dry ground. The X-Bites is very light, and looks great. Comfortable and balanced with a variety of reels (Tatula, Zillion, Metanium). The X-Bites seems slightly faster than my Expride 7'2" MH/F, but with a much softer tip. The Expride actually seems to have more power?? I'll reserve that judgement until fishing them side by side. I thought these two would be similar but they're very different. The X-Bites' action is not dissimilar to the only Loomis rod I have, a GLX 853 MBR. Power seems similar, too. I suspect that I'm not accurately assessing power by bending these in the garage. But if the verdict is "fishes like an 853 MBR but has more power when you need it," it should be a winner. Quote

Yeah I almost bought a x bites earlier this year also, just couldn’t quite figure the power of it out. The rod stated a certain lure weight range like normal, although it didn’t seem like it would handle the higher end of its rating that well. I will say that the weight of the rod and balance is superb, it seemed like it would be a very sensitive stick in my opinion. I didn’t buy it though because at the time I had more rods than I needed and I try to buy rods for a certain use and I get very obsessive on how I want the rod to feel. I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from you about your experience with the rod, I am sure that you will like it. Quote
