my new big bait

i got a rapala x-rap jointed shad today and its huge. 5 1/4 inches and 1 5/8 ounces. hope i can get a big boy on this one  ;D

I 'd say that it will do well taking in consideration that most hard swimbaits begin around that size just don 't expect to catch a bigun on every cast, smallish bass can be incredibly stupid and do hit baits that size and larger with a lot of frequency.

thats good. i dont really care about the size (well not really....i really really would love for some big fish w/ it, but that wasnt my only intent) i'll take any fish! since there arent realy many huge fish around here, i'll be very pleased with what you guys would call a "smallish fish" in the 2-4 pound range.

haha! im the same way! i can see how people see a 3 pound fish as small. round here thats a very nice fish. 4+is a lunker, and anything above 6 is a true hawg.

I use mine for muskies. It's a very good bait. The St. Clair bass haven't shown any interest yet.

yea yea i know about the rod. its too heavy. but if im careful i can still cast it. i made 1 5/8oz out of lead sinkers and casted that in my yard. it flexes the rod alot, but i can cast it.

It's going to be even tougher when the thing is in water, there's more resistance.

well....this seems like it could be a problem ;D but see...i pull in fish that weigh much more than 1 5/8 ounces, so i dont see why the rod would break. i dont think i'd go out and get a rod for one lure. maybe purchasing that lure was a mistake!

I'm sure you catch fish alot heavier then 1 5/8oz. but I dought that you cast out a 2lb. bass.

It should be fine, I have the black and orange one, I swim it real slow and cast way past my targets, it splahes just a little...
