I like my Ark Tharp B-Hittay, 7'6" MH Abu Winch, and BPS 7'3" H Crankin Stick for CB's. All work well, but none are perfect, so... What the heck, I ordered one of these Tatula's. Gotta spend your money on something right? Happy early birthday to me!!!

I use a composite rod that has an S-Glass tip that has some forgiveness when working through cover but still has a solid butt section.  Also, bass will often slash at chatterbaits (and swim jigs) and having that softness IME, helps with MY hookups consistency.  I use the same type of rod for chatterbaits, swim jigs, and crankbaits.

 

IMO, that’s the primary theory why anglers who use glass/composite rods do so.  Doesn’t make it right for everyone…no reason why MH/F couldn’t work just as well.

I have used this one as well but think I have permanently made this rod for the fat ika. It does work great for chatterbaits though.

It's a GREAT all-around rod and perhaps my all-time favorite. I gave mine to my brother.

Nice that you gave it away. Just curious,  what did you replace it with? I have handled the new one and it just seems different and a little off compared to the old but not in a bad way.

I have a custom Rainshdow Eternity ETEC76M built by ghoti. It's matched with

a Shimano Conquest 100 and Tatsu #12. The casting distance is remarkable.

Any standard 4 power Dobyns has generally done really well for me with spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and swimjigs.

I like my 744 Kaden for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, swimjigs, and keitechs, but it's a bit too fast for me for chatters. My reflexes are like greased lightning covered in frog snot. ? I could definitely see it working well for some folks though. Nice versatile rod.

I use my 843C once in a while for lighter chatters, top waters etc. 

Every time I do I question my intelligence for using it for moving baits, Instead of taking advantage of it being the most sensitive and well made rod I own.

I use 7’ 3” bass pro shop crankin stick. Heavy action fast. Not really a heavy action rod thou as it’s meant for crankbait I believe. Love it. No complaints. 15 # mono big game.

I think so too.  I use a faster and a slower rod for chatters depends on the situation and both work.  I do think a softer tip not only gives you a little more time to get a good set, it helps with casting.  I think it affects the action of the bait as well, and not just starting and stoping.  I think the perfect chatter rod has a soft tip and somewhat soft midsection that loads into a strong butt section that's closer to a moderate action then a mod fast.  Everyone sets a hook different, so really it comes to what ever has the best hookup and landing ratio.

I believe that How & Where these baits are presented is & can be different for each Basshead. 

Might be best to use what works for you.

I fish them low & slow most of the time.

If I'm coming in contact with cover, I like the composite stick.

When I'm sneaking the bait across a more open bottom, either stick works for me. 

Either way, my Vibrating jig rigs are all spooled with 15 lb Tatsu.

17lb works but I get more bites with the 15 lb. 

I never go under that though.

I hav the MH version of that rod. Use it for 3/8oz Zman regular size and mini max chatterbaits.  Braid to leader.  Great success with this combo.

10-4. I've checked out the graphite Tatulas in the store. Really nice rods for the $$$.

 I'm really nit pickin at this point. My hook and land ratio is really good with the Ark and Abu MH composites, but I find myself running back the deck on the hookset pretty often to stay tight. I'd like a little more power in the middle of the blank. The 7'3" H BPS crankin stick has the power but not quite as soft a tip as the MH's. It's also more sensitive than the others and I lip hook and lose more fish. All three are good chatterbait rods, but none of them make me go that's EXACTLY what I want in my CB rod. I dunno, I may be chasing a unicorn, but what the heck, there's worse things to blow money on than fishin poles.

I use my Dobyns DX444 for spinnerbaits and feel the same way.  I really wanted it to be a jig rod, but it is stubborn and insists it's a spinnerbait rod.

So if a 844c would would, I’m guessing a 904c would be good.  Would that be too much rod for a 1/2 chatterbait?

Not sure any of the rods mentioned will work well for the heavier 3/4 and 1 1/4oz versions of the jackhammer.... I'm fishing them now on a heavy jig rod with 15lb flouro.... super deep reservoir 300+ feet deep.... I'm trying to slow roll these 40-60' deep bouncing on the rocks.... no vegetation to be found.

If you are looking around, do some research on the Alpha Angler ChatterBound.  They have been a smaller company that made rods for pros but are now doing direct to customer (no retail)…Brandon Palaniuk is a big user.  I have the ChatterBound and 2 Rebounds and am a fan.
