moundhill Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Well my buddy and i are in a bass tourney on saturday, and we just realized yesterday..NO LIVE WELL in the new boat. I wwas wonderig if you guys had any ideas on how to rig up a quick live well or keep these fish alive for a few hours during the tournament Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 You might want to check with the tournament director to see what the minimum requirements are in the rules. A cheap plastic cooler, aerator, water pail and some ice might be all you need to get thru the day....or maybe not. Quote

You may be able to use an aquarium kit too, but I never tried it. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 16, 2010 Super User Posted July 16, 2010 A cooler, a battery operated air pump ( you can purchase that at an aquaruim/pet store ), a few feet of plastic tubing, an air stone and a strip of lead on the plastic tubing ( to prevent the air stone flom rising ) is all you need to make a livewell, change part of the water frquently and your fish will be fine. Ahhh .... and a white towel, soak it in the lake, remove the excess water and cover the cooler lid with it ( it keeps the temparture inside the cooler lower ). Quote
smallie.huntin Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I ran into almost the same problem a few weeks ago. My boat has 2 livewells but both pumps are shot. I bought an aerator at Dick's for about $20 that has 2 alligator clamps that connect directly to the battery. I also took a large juice jug and cut the top off so that I could change the water out every other hour or so. Kept my fish fine all day. Hope this helps and good luck in the tournament! Quote

My livewell in my tracker (1990), I have 1 pump that brings in water and at the top of the well, theres a drain that leads out of the boat. So gravity is what is taking the water out of the livewell. Is this gonna be a reliable system or should I install a pump to take out water? Quote
bassman018 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 A big cooler and aerator, with a bilge pump. Quote
moundhill Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Well we ended up riggin up a lil something. We got about a 8 gallon cooler, two small aireators and some ice. We switched the water out every now and then and frequently put in some ice. It kept the fish alive till wiegh in..thats all that matters! 8-) Quote
