Cbump Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 This will go on a Falcon All ‘Round Fast (MHF) Rod with 15lb fluoro. Will be used for Light T-rig, weightless t-rig Senko, Swim Jigs, heavier Shakey, heavier drop shot. These reels are all very similar price online: Lews Tournament MP $132 Lews BB1 Pro $160 Lews KVD LFS $125 Lews Super Duty with flipping switch $159 Lews Tournament Pro $159 Not even sure the real difference in any of these. Thank you! 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted June 26, 2022 Super User Posted June 26, 2022 From that list, Super Duty casts light weights best. I sold my Tournament Pro and bought another SD, because the TP couldn't keep up (not even close) @Chumps1 since you modified you list, the Tatula will cover the wide weight range best. Quote
Cbump Posted June 26, 2022 Author Posted June 26, 2022 I guess add Shimano SLX 150 for $88 and the Daiwa Tatula CT for $112 to the mix. I have a lot of CTs and like them, just like to try new things sometimes. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 26, 2022 Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Tournament Pro out of those. I definitely think the brakes work far better than magnets at all weights. 2 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 Since the original question was "Which Lews Reel", I'm not going to start suggestings other reel manufacturers. I dont know the specifics on all of those reels, but the differences I do see are the braking systems. Some have straight magnetic brakes, some (at least the BB1) have centrifugal, and some have both. Since the lure styles you mentioned typically use slower casting techniques like flipping or pitching and not flatout bomb casting, I would suggest something with a mag brake or combo. Of the ones mentioned, my recommendation would be the Tournament MP or Tournament Pro 1 Quote
AmmoGuy Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 If I was buying a Lews, it would be the tourney pro. 3 Quote
NavyToad Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 I have a BB1 Pro, 2 Team Lews Lites, and 1 Tournament Pro. I like the Tournament Pro the best. Between the Tournament Pro and the Tatula SV TW, it’s a toss-up IMO. At $159 you can’t beat it. I paid $165 shipped and it was a steal IMO. With some of the sale prices I’ve seen lately, I’m on alert for left-hand Tournament Pros on sale even though I don’t need another reel right now. 1 Quote

Tatulatard Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 Tournament Pro LFS. The brake on that reel and 10 gram spool are what make the reel. 3 Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 26, 2022 Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Lew's TP would get my vote. 2 Quote
Cbump Posted June 26, 2022 Author Posted June 26, 2022 Secondary question. If I buy the tournament pro, I’ll have It and a Team Lews Hyper Mag. Ill also have a Dobyns Champion extreme 745c (for heavier t-rigs and pitching) and the Falcon rod I already mentioned. Which would you put on which? Quote

Cbump Posted June 26, 2022 Author Posted June 26, 2022 My hyper mag is pretty sweet, “higher end” if cost is indicative, and lighter. Probably put It on the better rod (Dobyns). 2 Quote

Thank you! If that Tournament MP is the replacement for the Tournament MB, can't go wrong. there. I have 3. The oldest one finally gave up a bearing. It sounds awful when I cast. I'm going to send it off to be fixed. I also have 1 LFS $100 reel and one on order. As you can see I'm a fan. Quote

I like using the hypermag and custom lite versions best, but as noted above, they are spendy relative to the options that the OP listed. Quote

I am the OP. I already own the Hyper Mag. Just didn’t want to spend that much for this reel I’m buying. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 26, 2022 Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Tournament MP and KVD reel are very very similar reels go with the KVD it’s a bit cheaper as long as you don’t mind the Maroon color. Quote

When it's On, any time you're on the thumb bar, you're in freespool, and any time you release the thumb bar, the drive is already engaged, so you don't have to thumb the spool and turn the crank to click-engage the drive mechanism. Essentially, the thumb bar moves the pinion gear directly without locking it disengaged. It's good for vertical jigging, also. The whole idea is quicker hook sets on quick strikes. Just like the name, it's intended for repeated short presentation and expecting a strike on the splash or fall. You wouldn't want it engaged on a long cast - you'd tend to break off lures. 1 Quote
