volzfan59 Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 When I was signing into Bass Resource just now, I was directed to some sort of Security Authenticator. What was up with that? Is this something from BR? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 26, 2022 Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Ya - Glenn posted that they'd engaged 2-factor authentication. So yes, it's BR doing it. 1 Quote

I even tried copy and paste. Then the scan QR code thing didn’t work because it would only allow the camera to scan it. then I answered the security question haha. Which if anyone knows me they could guess I thought the rooskies had infiltrated my mobile device, I considered throwing it into the river 1 1 Quote

Tail Slap Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Most people use one password and at best use slightly different versions of it. If someone hacks your one password they usually can get the rest. It's not a person guessing uts a computer working millions in seconds. The goal is to get your main email account and password. As that account is used almost always to assign new passwords to all your online accounts, they get that it's game over. Your bank accounts, various bills etc. This is why TOTP 2 FA is a much stronger security deterent. Really everyone should be using a Password Manager App like KeePass. Then you set the one strong local password to open that app and all your other accounts can be very long random pwds. No need to remember them as the app will auto fill the credentials in for you on each website. On top of that a TOTP at least the first time you log in from a specific device you own. This can be done locally with various apps called authenticator Google authenticator is the most known one. Some would be very surprised what others with bad intentions can learn about a person from info they post in the clear on the net. Social media is a treasure trove. Take the time to learn how to use the security functions. If needed get your kids or grandkids to help you if your from pre internet culture. Quote
