Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 22, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2022 Gents. These 2 premium lines seem to be most talked about, used and recommended braided lines on here. I was wondering what the majority thinks are the main differences between the 2, besides price. Thanks Mike Quote
BayouSlide Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Just to answer that question myself, I put 832 and Smackdown on two of the same model Lew's spinning reels on two different spinning rods, one a Dobyns Sierra, the other a Daiwa Tatula, both being used for shakey heads. Have only had the chance to use them on one or two outings but at this point I really can't see/feel any significant differences. 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 I am sure others will have more detailed analysis about these two. To me, the Smackdown is softer like the PowerPro Slick 8. It's also slicker than 832, which means more wraps when tying a FG knot. I tend to use Smackdown on spinning reels more often. 10lb Smachdown would give me more casting distance. On baitcasters, both cast very well, and have good abrasion resistance. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 I have both (20 lb) on spinning reels. I like both. If I had to pick, I’d choose Smackdown. Performance-wise they’re pretty even in my eyes. But Smackdown is substantially quieter casting and retrieving. So if performance is basically the same, the silence elevates it for me. 4 Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 Haven't tried smackdown as I've been so happy with 832. It's by far the most abrasion resistant braid I've used. I fish alot of rock and 832 handles all my bottom contact braid duty exceptionally well. I think that Gore fiber lives up to the Sufix hype, and contributes to the great handling and abrasion resistance. I've tried a few cheap chinese braids for baits that get fished up in the water column, and they've all been good. KastKing Super Power, Angry Fish 8 carrier, and Hercules are all smooth, strong, and cheap. The Angry Fish is my favorite of those. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 22, 2022 Author Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2022 Thanks Fellas I guess I should have said I’ll only use it on casting gear but I’m sure everything will hold true for both. Thanks Mike Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 I've not used smackdown, but I really don't like 832. 1 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 Used smackdown and was not impressed.Sufix 832 has been good to me. 1 Quote

I originally went to Smackdown on baitcasters due to the annoying noise of Power Pro: sounded like a file running through my guides. Both 832 and Smackdown are whisper quiet compared to that ?. This is my first foray with braid on spinning rods and I'd be happy with either at this point. 1 Quote
NJBasstard Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 I have given Smackdown a chance multiple times on my casting gear and currently have 30lb and 40lb on a couple reels right now. I'm personally not a fan of it. It's quiet and really soft but it seams to fray to easily when compared to PP or 832. I'm keeping it on because I don't want to waste two spools of line, but when the time comes I'll be replacing it with something else. I love it in 20lb or less on spinning gear though. 1 Quote
Revival Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 I been using 832 for years. No reason to try anything else. 3 Quote
RDB Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 I have used both for a long time and don’t notice any difference while fishing. I guess if I really concentrated I might be able to nitpick a few things but nothing that would make me choose one over the other. I usually choose Smackdown over 832 for spinning but only because I prefer the look of hi vis green over hi vis yellow (it’s a vanity thing…don’t judge me). I have not had fading or bleeding issues with either line. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 23, 2022 Super User Posted June 23, 2022 I have used both and like both but out of the two, I like Smackdown better. It just handles better, last a little longer, it seems thinner, and doesn't tie in as easy. With that said, I like Sunline Xplasma better than either of them. 1 Quote
Big Swimbait Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 I prefer Smackdown for casting for all of the reasons stated. But I have had tremendous success using straight 20# 832 Camo on my finesse spinning applications with it's 6# diameter. 1 Quote
waymont Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 832 has zero issues for me, I see no reason to spend more money for the smackdown. 1 Quote
