Mojo Bass Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Hello everybody I’m adding a spinning setup to my arsenal I currently just have casting setups so I would like some advice on line….. my spinning setup is going to be a 7’0 medium/fast rod and a 3000 size spinning reel I plan to use this for weightless/lightly weighted wacky rigged and Texas rigged 4 inch senkos light jigs some small Swimbaits/swimjigs would I be better off using 8lb Tatsu for this or 15lb braid? That is my question really, I’ve used 8lb invizx on spinning gear before and it performed totally fine and I know it’s obviously softer than Tatsu so I’m wondering if 8lb Tatsu will be just fine on spinning tackle too? thanks for the replies 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 The Tatsu will work just fine. 1 Quote
padon Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 it will work just fine. for me its hard to beat braid to leader on spinning rods. i like the versatility to change leader sizes and the increased hook setting power of braid. but if you prefer straight fluoro you wont have a problem with tatsu. 3 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 If you are comfortable with a 3000 size, go for it. These days, they are smaller than they used to be. I'm a 1000 size guy for bass and have hauled in many over 6 pounds on 10 or 15# braid plus leader from 6, 8, and 10 # test. Just the way I roll. I prefer to have braid for mainline so I don't cut into it as much when having to retie. A fluoro or co-poly leader lets me cut and retie several times before I have to cut in to the mainline. Saves $ for me. 1 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 I prefer braided mainline to a fluorocarbon leader, but straight fluoro will work fine. It's going to be a little more expensive in the long run (if that matters) but you may like it over braid when fishing in wind. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Weightless wacky rig 4" Senkos are a challenge to throw for distance. If distance with a 4" WW Senko is a priority, then a 7' Medium fast spinning rod would not be my choice. I have four medium action spinning rods and none of them are my first or even second choice for throwing WW 4" Senkos (which I fish with often, along with 5" WW Senkos). As for line, and this again could be different for you depending on the conditions you fish in. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 If I only had 1 spinning outfit it would have braid, unless I was often going to be fishing in clear water that commonly has more then 6' viz then FC would be a good choice. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 If 3000 size means Shimano, consider the JDM 3000MHG spool size - the shallow spool capacity is perfect for either 8-lb fluoro or 15-lb braid - you'll get perfect line lay, and the 47-mm spool diameter will be nicer to your fluoro than a smaller diameter spool. https://fishing.asian-portal.shop/category/select/pid/316262 51in current stock at Asian Portal. They also have big stock of Stradic 3000MHG for $165. Adding line will get you free Fed-Ex shipping (may have to throw in a lure or 2 with the Stradic) They won't have Tatsu, but have Kureha Seaguar R18 (equivalent to Tatsu) https://fishing.asian-portal.shop/category/select/pid/310287 The fluoro I like better than Tatsu is Toray ExThread https://fishing.asian-portal.shop/category/select/pid/309856 1 Quote
CrashVector Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 I use 10lb test Hercules no fade braid on my finesse spinning rigs. No leader. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 22, 2022 Super User Posted June 22, 2022 A 3000 series reel holds way too much line. I prefer the 1000 series. 1 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 1000 series reel...10 lb power pro high-visibility yellow, tied to a 8# or 10# fluorocarbon leader. Let me tell you, I was not a fan of braid-to-leader on spinning rods...then forced myself to give it a long try...and now it's on ALL my spinning rods. Casts like a rocket, super sensitive, and haven't really had any issues with knots failing. Quote

I prefer the larger spool of a 3000 size reel as I feel it casts more smoothly and provides better line management. I fill it up most of the way with a junk mono and top it off with 100 yards of braid. 1 Quote
uglyasheck Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Myself braid to leader is the way to go. Change your leader if you like to match what bait and technic you are using. I like 10lb braid to 10lb floro or 8lb floro. You will figure out what works for you over time. Oh don't forget about setting your drag. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 I prefer mono or flouro on my spinning rigs. I just think it offers more sensitivity on a slack line. I like to fish a lot of my plastics weightless and let them slowly drift down. I think mono or braid lets me feel it better if something picks it up. The only braid and leader setups I have are hi-viz braid with flouro leader so my wife can see the line twitch or move on a bite, and get an easier hook set with the braid Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 24, 2022 Super User Posted June 24, 2022 KVD uses 3000 size reel for line management. I would use Sufix elite mono. Quote
