KP Duty Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 ...really resembles what it's named after....a turd. I noticed this bait recently on TW, and figured I'd pick some up with my next jdm order. Can't....it is apparently a U.S. release only. I've never paid the crazy domestic retail price for a deps bait, but I'll have to for this one. Apparently it is heavy...40% salt content. Looks amazing in the water $11 a bag. Here it is at TW... https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Deps_Cover_Scat_Soft_Stick_Bait/descpage-DCSWW.html Video of the action... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.facebook.com/OptimumBaits/videos/developed-as-an-anti-cover-strategy-deps-cover-scat-is-a-bait-built-to-be-fished/10158033061812727/&ved=2ahUKEwiVvZCf2LT4AhWHD0QIHTlgDFUQuAJ6BAhEEAg&usg=AOvVaw0H4-O6wRRytsVQjQbUEQDm 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 18, 2022 Super User Posted June 18, 2022 I will use it on occasion. It works though. It's probably one the oddest most well thought out pieces of soft plastic. If you fish it and see how it is made and what it can do in the water, you will understand. I try to order them from Japan when I place an order for a reel. At almost $11 a pack, it's kind of crazy. They do last a long time though. 2 Quote
RDB Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 I’ve had one on my TW maybe list for 6 months and needed to spend more for shipping last week and pulled the trigger. Never thought I’d get to the point where I would be fishing with imitation poop. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 19, 2022 Super User Posted June 19, 2022 This all started with “do nothing” French fry worm. The Senko was a mistake that Gary Yamamoto created to be a Slug go type stick bait with heavy salt. Ned was 1/2 a ZMan Stick bait and the beat goes on. TRD has morphed into Scat a real turd that looks like it will work....why not! Tom 2 Quote
KP Duty Posted June 19, 2022 Author Posted June 19, 2022 I noticed TW lists the weight of the baits. They weren't kidding about the heavy salt....the 3.5" weighs 9/16oz, and the 4" comes in at 15/16oz! Quote
schplurg Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Ya some great "action" in that video LOL! It sinks. Are they scented? 1 5 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 20, 2022 Super User Posted June 20, 2022 $2 for a salted piece of ****? Heck I make my own version of this bait already. 1 1 6 Quote

MAN Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 The fact this actually works helps to prove that people way over think bass fishing. I would post some pictures of other stupid lures I have seen that work....but I can't afford another violation on my account for doing that. Quote

Decades ago the plastic worm, the buzzbait, the spinnerbait, and all these other amazing lures were invented. Now we invent super salty plastic turds and the marketing behind them doesn’t even have to be that good. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted June 27, 2022 Super User Posted June 27, 2022 Finally tried this ridiculous, do-nothing bait the other day. And all I can say is I'm sold! This thing was complete magic. I was having a tough day when I decided to rig one up. 2nd cast, wham! 5th cast, bam! 11th cast, thank you ma'am!! I was hoping I wouldn't like them. They're just so dang pricey and mine weren't durable at all. @FishTank you say yours lasted a long time? What hook were you using? I tried a few different EWGs. Thinking I might try a screw lock EWG next time out. 1 Quote

I agree…however, I think a lot of the success with these new baits is it is something different that the fish haven’t seen 100k times. Others will disagree and say bass can’t be conditioned but I’m not of the same mind. There are so many examples of lures that were hot early but lost some of their effectiveness over time. Quote

Thinking I might try a screw lock EWG next time out. I think when I said that they last a long time, I might be over stating it. They do last longer than most soft plastic. I think I have gotten 5-6 fish out of them but it all depends on the hook, how you set the hook and how much damage is done to it when you fish. As far as what hook I use.... I have tried a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG but it's sort of too long. The 3/0 didn't fit well. I have also tried G-Finesse 3/0 and 4/0 and they are good but the gap is not big enough. So I settled on a 4/0 EWG from Owner. I bought several but I am not sure which one it is. It's a heavy wire hook with a deep bend. It seems to go through easier and it holds in the bump a little better. I will try to post a pic when I can. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I wanted to come back to this thread and update last weekend's experience with this bait... I put a 3.5in Green Pumpkin on a free rig. First cast and wam, I a caught a nice 3lber. It hit that bait like a ton of bricks but the bait was shredded right down the middle. So I might rethink what I said about this bait being somewhat durable. Maybe it got torn on the weight. ?♂️ We'll see. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 3, 2022 Super User Posted August 3, 2022 I save all my soft plastics to melt and make into other baits . Maybe I should collect some coyote scat to make a mold . Call it the Wil e . 1 3 Quote

More salt= more/easier tearing. Doesn't stop us from using senkos I guess. Quote

Some tried screw-lock and it was very short lived. Some tried differing lengths of un-weighted EWG hooks with better results. I'll never know because I won't be obtaining any unless I find them in a bargain bin at my local bait shop. 1 Quote

Phelptwan Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I played with a 4" this week but didn't have any hooks larger than 5/0. I had a good deal of hits on it, but couldn't seem to set the hook. Grabbed some 7/0 and will try again. 1 Quote
