Knee pain is awful. I'm only 42 and have had knee pain for about the last 6 years. It got to the point where I started limping the pain was so bad. Wife talked me into going to the Dr a couple years ago. After an x-ray he told me I had the left knee of an 80 year old and the right knee of about a 60 year old. Basically bone on bone contact. I am bow legged and I played a lot of sports in my life (also led to foot problems). He suggested just going with a shot first to see how it helped the pain and advised to avoid any surgery at my age. The shot does okay and usually wears off in about 6 months and I just repeat. To this day when I get up off the couch I can count the 3 pops that my knee makes. He told me knee replacement was almost a certainty (assuming I live that long).

Cortisone shots are helpful but according to my wife’s previous doctor she said they should only be temporary due to long term effects and added damage from extended use (I’m not a doctor so take it for what it’s worth).

A friend of mine who’s 52 just had both his done over the last year (full replacement) and wished he had done it sooner. The second one wasn’t as smooth sailing but he’s still glad he did.

Do I got an update for y'all

Whet to physical therapy only to be handed 10-15 forms to be filled out at home & be back tomorrow at 2.

The funny thing is therapy is in the same building as the orthopedic surgeon. I'm thinking y'all are a hundred feet from the surgeon's desk & y'all can't access their data base!

Now the fun part ?

I got home & fell backwards off my front porch. The good part was the porch is only 4" tall. The bad part I twisted my left ankle, knee again, & back.

But I will add I can walk slowly with the help of the crutches. Something I couldn't do yesterday.

HIPPA law side effect.  As a guy that deals in data all day, it infuriates me that systems that could talk to each other cannot due to bureaucracy and privacy laws.  There's ways to opt out and allow info to flow to chosen providers.  They also have all the info you fill out on those paper forms already, once they have your insurance subscriber number.  It's like they give you those forms to fill out like they give out crayons and coloring pages at restaurants for kids.  Keep them occupied...

The thing that gets me are the totally ridiculous questions they ask.
I had to go to a ENT doctor and one of the many useless questions was if I was “sexually active”!!

My wife was sitting next to me and I showed her the question and she said…

”Don’t you dare”!

Be careful with a torn hamstring.

I had one may years ago and I remember the pain.

Doctor told me to do exercises as the tear will calcify and become a major problem. Ask him about this.

Good luck on a speedy recovery.

Total knee replacement of right knee.

90% of pain gone.

Physical therapy so painful that I refuse to have left knee replaced.

Am I a sissy?  Yes, when it comes to pain.

Good luck with your situation.

Keep us posted.

According to the Orthopedic Surgeon I stretched my lateral collateral ligament (LCL) & ham string as far as possible without tearing them.

Physical therapy twice a week, plus Tens Unit Muscle Stimulator, heating pad, ice compression at home.

Hope your knee gets to feeling better soon Catt. I too have had knee problems from doing carpenter work, although my problems are not as bad as yours.

I have a friend who always answers the questions of race, sex, and in case of emergency contact number with. Human, often, and 911.  He has been doing this for over 10 years, and has never even had a person notice what he put down.

I can now walk with one crutch & very short distances without any.

What the Physical Therapist showed me I'm doing 4 times a day at home.

There is light at the end of the tunnel!

Keep at it man!

Posts like these remind me of what I was once told about longevity and that joint health is key...

I am currently having knee issues that I have neglected. i.e. I can now pop my left knee out of socket at command... One day, that knee will be load balancing and I'll be screwed, and everyone around me will know it.

I think I'm gona go get it checked out now...
