Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 15, 2022 Super User Posted June 15, 2022 I've seen more and more Pros fishing a ribbon tail worm on gravel bottoms using a jig head to fish what amounts to a Shaky Head ribbon tail worm . I always considered a ribbon tail worm to be used with a bullet weight T-Rigged . Nothing says you can't fish a ribbon tail worm on a jig head - how many fish ribbon tail worms this way ? Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 15, 2022 Super User Posted June 15, 2022 Ya ever heard of a Wobble Head? 3 Quote
padon Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 theyve been doing it for years up north. (minn, wisc etc) especially around vegetation. called a jig worm. a 7 inch power worm was the standard for years. use a light (1/8) jighead with a small (1/0) or so hook. cast to the weed line pop it out when it gets hung and let it fall further down the edge. fish usually bite when you pop it out of the grass. 4 2 Quote

Yes , familiar with the wobble head but in this case was thinking more of a Shaky Head which for me at least was always more of a straight tail finesse or trick worm approach. Quote
throttleplate Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 fish them with a bobber and a jig head. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted June 17, 2022 Super User Posted June 17, 2022 My grandfather showed me how to rig a worm on a ball head jig back in the late 70s. He called it a jig worm and it was killer for bass. 5 Quote

Can't recall who on here put me on this, but the Fin-Tech title shot is fantastic if dealing with extremely heavy cover, especially weeds. scott 2 Quote

My hookup ratio has been fantastic and my worms seem to last forever. Might be nice with a large fluke as well. scott 1 Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 17, 2022 Posted June 17, 2022 I prefer to fish any worm on a ball or mushroom head then a SH as long as I can get away with it. A worm on a ballhead with a small hook has better action and looks much more natural compared to a SH. As long as you have a light head and smaller hook, a jig worm is surprisingly weedless. I like to use a 4" bubbling shaker on a 1/32 owner blockhead on weedlines. Most of the bites you get occur on the fall or right after you snap it free from the grass. Quote

I’m of the same opinion as you. The only ribbon tail I use is the Culprit Fat Max t rigged, which is what I got my PB on. I wouldn’t think that a long thin ribbon would be a better choice than something with a little more substance to give the effect a somewhat upright worm would have. But don’t go by me. Mike Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 18, 2022 Super User Posted June 18, 2022 Brewer Spider head with 3/0 hook works well jig worming... exposed hook point when possible, point tucked when not possible. oe 1 Quote
RDB Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Fished one yesterday…10” Power Worm on a 3/8oz 5/0 shakey head. I usually have one tied on in the summer months. Most of the time in the south when you hear about shakey heads and ribbon tails in summer months, it’s using bigger worms. 10” power worms are as big around as your index finger. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted June 19, 2022 Super User Posted June 19, 2022 Last Summer I caught deep Spots on a Dirty Jigs Magnum Horseshoe Shakey Head(7/0) and a white 10" Culprit Ribbon tail. Quote
