Hi All - I've only been frog fishing for the past 7-8 years with not many frog hours logged. Terminator walking, RI's swamp donkey, Deps Slither K has been my progression. Looking for a walking frog that has thin/strong sharp hooks, ideally hooks at an optimal angle out of the package, casts well, easy soft bite. I use a ALX Enox BMJ 7'2" Med/Hvy + with 30# Suffix 131 G-Core which is the best baitcasting braid I've ever experienced for long casting and line management during long casting. Any suggestions for frogs are welcome. Thanks.

The new Scum Launch Frog would be a good choice. I also like the River2Sea Bully Wa 2. I've also got some of the 6th Sense Vega frogs to try this year.

Get a Booyah or Spro frog and be done with it.

I've had very good luck with the FishLab Bio Toad also if you want a bigger frog but the hooks do need manipulated a bit out of the package with them to get an optimal angle.

Scum Frog Launch Series for farther/easier casting.

The original trophy series or painted trophy series are also great.

;However the Scum Frog Trophy Series should have a slightly better hook up ratio than the launch due to the launch series having an extra weight wrapped around the "keel" of the hook.

I haven't found any to be better than the other for hook up ratio, they've all been the best frogs I've ever fished regarding hook up ratio.

The black colors are the softest and are my go to. Must be the resin they use. You can try it out yourself. Buy a white, painted, or yellow one and a black one. The black one will be softer.

I use the original Scum Frog more than anything else and have for many years.

However, the entire Scum line regardless of model are the softest on the market, and have the best hook ratio than anything else I’ve used.

@Triptych Nice! 2 scum launch recommendations. I order a sloppy toad color yesterday......even though black is what I use 90% of the time. Very very helpful!

Another vote for Livetarget!  I swear by these. I have had many days where we were frogging and my friend starts with a different frog and keeps missing them. Changes to Livetarget and it was on. Same set up and hook sets. They are just so soft and collapse so easy.

I will add one other tag to this. Consider dropping in power on your rod.  I know, I know, POWER!!! We need rebar to get these fish!

Watch Dean Rojas (the guy that helped design the Bronze eye frog) and even the guys from Tactical Bassin, when they talk about making better hook ups with softer rods. I fish slop and have dropped to a set up that is basically a M/H + with a fast tip and still rip them out carrying a bowl of salad.

Just an idea.

Check out these frogs from Toad Thumper lures. They are a new company, and were just launched this year. I picked some up to try, and I honestly think they are the best frogs I have fished to date.

Scum Frog Launch series & Booyah Pad Crasher frogs (so far) for me ... With Booyah frogs I open those hooks up a couple of degrees which results in more solid hook ups .

Booyah poppin pad crasher is what I throw. My rod is more of a moderate-fast than a true fast. I never have hookup issues and I don't adjust the hooks. Two years ago I switched to a stiffer almost xtra fast rod and started missing hookups like crazy. After 2 outings I ditched that rod and went back to the slower taper, my problems vanished.

Just wanted to share my experience regarding frog hookups. The rod is one of those old green BPS extremes stripped and rebuilt. Its rated H/F but I would definitely call it moderate-fast.

I think the Booyah Pad Crasher is a good frog right out of the package. I still "tune it up" though. I did have one of the popping model that couldn't catch squat. I threw it away. But the standard has always been very good for me and they last a very long time.

No info on the frog size, weight or hook size?

LiveTarget and Booyah make great hollow belly frogs with sharp hooks. I recommend checking the hooks often to make sure they are sharp.

Posted

Booyah, Spro, LiveTarget, and Castaic all make fine <= 1/4 oz hollow body frogs (some in popper form) for those who like to use lighter tackle.

I adjust my hooks just a wee bit by taking 2 pair of needle nose pliers & bending them upward.

I get the most hits on LiveTargets too, all around a solid frog.

Typically carry some Booyah pad crashers as a cheaper backup.
