Hi guys I’m in the market for a new jerkbait rod and I’ve locked it down to the kayden 610-4cb and the champion 685 cb I like a little bit longer of a rod for cranking but has anyone owned any kadens are they as high quality as the champs I own a fury and while it is a nice rod at the 100$ price point those champions are amazing and the actions are phenomenal I have never touched the sierras so I can’t speak on those but if anyone owns a kayden cb rod please let me know what you think, the rod will be mostly for 110s as I throw a Stunna 90% of the time and a rapalla finessier style or Kvd rip bait style the other 10% my other Dobyns are a bit underpowered and I’m a tad worried about being able to work them properly I’ve always used a medium fast action rod but have swapped from mono to fluro and now i feel like my rod needs to be a little more forgiving

The only Champion XP I have experience with is the 744C, which is great for jigs and T-Rigs. It's like the 734C with a stiffer tip and a little more backbone.

My favorite Dobyns rod that I have experience with for jerkbaits is the Sierra 703C. It seems to be in the ballpark of the Champion in sensitivity, definitely a significant step up from the Fury, and it also might be the most versatile rod you can buy. You can throw weightless or lightly weighted soft plastics on it, finesse jigs, square bills, topwater and even lighter spinnerbaits or chatterbaits (up to 3/8oz) as long as you don't use a heavy trailer. It is rated a medium heavy, but is on par with a medium in many other manufacturers lines - very similar to the St Croix Mojo Bass 7'1" M/F "Plastics" rod.

I have always used a fast action for jerkbaits until I swapped from mono to fluro after I made that swap it became very apparent that a mod fast was needed

The Sierra tends to run a little slower so it’s more of a mod fast.

My favorite rod for jerkbaits is my Mojo Bass 6’8” M/XF. I know you think I’m nuts but it doesn’t have as much backbone as the other St Croix mediums so it bends all the way through. Being an extra fast I can always detect bites on the jerk though else I would use a moderate or moderate fast.

I use the  Kayden 610-4cb for jerk baits & find it to be right for the job. I find that I can work the bait better with that length rod & have not had a problem keeping pinned while landing the fish.. I have had the rod about 3 months but am retired & get to fish 3 to 4 times a week so It's been used often.  I have caught several L/M in the 3 & 4 lb range with the biggest being 4lb 5 oz.. Caught a mudfish that was 5lb 2 oz. That fish fought hard & the rod handled it just fine. I am happy with the rod.

Ok so my kayden came in and wow I don’t know if I will ever spend the extra 100$ on a champion except for some models that they don’t make in a Kayden  these things are sweet man the unfinished blank looks awesome super crisp snappy and sensitive and they handled a couple 2-3 lb fish well the actions are perfect for 110 size jerkbait a and the 110 jrs even was able to throw some rock crawlers and squarebills really well on it I’m super impressed with the kaydens I will be buying more i would say the kaydens are about 50% better than the fury’s and the champions are probably 5% better than the kaydens I was extremely happy with my purchase and anyone who handled it could not believe the rod was only 170$
