thunderblack Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Hey guys, I am trying to follow what is going on with gun laws and some of the bills they are purposing are just nuts. If they are somehow successful in making it illegal to own high capacity magazines what are you guys planning to do with your pistols and AR's? I'm not trying to open a can of worms here but wanted to see what your plan is for guys that have one gun or 30. I am mostly just curious if you guys are even worried about it.
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 I won't comment on the political side of this but if they impose a magazine capacity limit it will be on new magazines going forward. All old magazines will still be legal and grandfathered in. I have a lot of magazines for everything I own but I'm thinking about stocking up now for guns I don't own yet but might buy in the future. 1
Super User Choporoz Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 Tough to guess until a bill is written. Most countries that successfuly tried to enact sort of reform instituted buy-back programs. Hard to believe anybody thinks that owners would voluntarily scrap weapon-related stuff without compensation.

Won't happen on a federal level this time, but more likely state by state in certain states, and I don't happen to live in one of those states. 1

I believe @Jrob78 is accurate, it would simply affect new capacity moving forward. I did read what was in the senate bill which is bipartisan-negotiated, and the most significant item in it are red-flag laws which restricts court-ordered individuals deemed mentally unstable from purchasing a firearm.

Super User GreenPig Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 I only worry about things I have control over and that ain't much.
Woody B Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 THE way "they're" coming after our guns is with red flag laws. All the other stuff is just a smoke screen. Anything anyone says online boasting about what laws they'll break when certain stuff is outlawed will be use as evidence in these red flag gun grabs. 3

Regulations will continue differ widely state by state, with a handful being the most extreme. Little to worry about for the rest of us. If someone isn't happy with any regulations on any matter in a certain state, we always have the freedom to move to a state more to our liking. 1
Super User Bird Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 Well as an avid gun owner, I've heard all this before. Every time a psycho goes on a rampage......guns fault. No, I'm not worried. 2
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 14, 2022 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 14, 2022 My state has some of the most stringent restrictions in the country - and they're NOT retroactive. Meaning it's "illegal" to purchase after the law was implemented, but not "illegal" to own one if you purchased it before that date. 3 1

Oh well, at least you can sleep easier at night knowing criminals in NY don't have high cap mags now. ? I live in TX so my outlook on things is definitely a little different than yours, which is a shame. 1

Super User NHBull Posted June 14, 2022 Super User Posted June 14, 2022 The National bill that is now likely to pass the House and Senate does not language about large capacity mags, AR’s, age…. looking at midterm projections, many states may reverse current restrictions. 2
