I drink A LOT of coffee.  My Dad drank A LOT of coffee.  I drink it everyday, all day long and can drink it an hour before bed, I usually don't, and still fall asleep.  Hell, I am drinking coffee right now at 7 PM.  My wife says I am a coffee who**- any time, any place, anyway.  But I do prefer my coffee hot, black, and strong.  Never an issue related to health.

Now if it's hot and I am fishing, I won't drink much coffee in the boat.  I bring 64 oz of ice water and a frozen Vitamin Water Recharge.  I make sure to drink those throughout the day even if I am not thirsty.  If I am fishing the next day and it's 90+ degrees, I will make sure to have more water and another Vitamin Water once I get home.  But what's the first thing I do in the truck with the AC cranked on the way home?  That's right- I pour myself a cup of hot coffee.

When fishing early, I forego the coffee and drink about 1/3 of a 5 Hour Energy. I take water with me and sip until it's gone. When I'm finished I head home and hydrate.

my abstinence of coffee on fishing days appears to help.  it is easier for me to feel hydrated.  I dont feel thirsty right away.

I wake up pretty well when I first lay eyes on water.  the anticipation for the day is drug like.  the drive is a bit sucky without a hot cup off coffee to sip on.  I have been bringing a can of fizzy water instead.  I pee clear at the boat launch.  (TMI?)

Water, water, everywhere and all the boards do shrink…

I am the worst as far as drinking coffee, but a big glass of water 1rst thing in the AM will save you significant pain later. Continuing with large glasses of water through the day will then significantly reduce your medical bills and reliance on pain meds.

Stones are no joke. If you know you know.

I know I’m late to this topic but I’m wondering if you’re referring to the poem or the Iron Maiden song ? Either way I don’t fish out of any vessel but after experiencing dehydration as a apprentice carpenter who drank too much soda pop and not enough water I do whatever it takes too make sure I drink enough water after a 24 oz coffee first thing in the morning. Heat stroke/dehydration is no flipping joke and scary enough you don’t even know it’s coming on until it’s too late. I’ll never forget or relive the pain of that day and always carry enough water or cash to buy water if needed. Be safe out on the water or shorelines.
