Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 12, 2022 Super User Posted June 12, 2022 Wow! I cannot believe the Sooners find a way into the CWS. They had a rough start to the season but really started putting it together at the end. They made a good run through the Big 12 tourney and managed to beat a good VT team at home to make it back to Omaha for the first time since 2010. Not sure they have much of a chance but if their arms perform as well as they have as of late, they may surprise some people. No school has ever won the WCWS and the CWS in the same year. Probably won't happen, but would be nice to see. On a side note, the Vols really disappointed. I had them as a lock to make it to the CWS championship but the Irish surprised them. 2 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 Congratulations to the teams in the CWS. They say Tennessee had a good team this year. I only watched two games all season, the one on Friday and the one today. ? Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 13, 2022 Super User Posted June 13, 2022 It's whoever has momentum down the stretch. Tennessee could beat ND 9 out of 10 but the loss was just bad timing. Imo Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 14, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 14, 2022 Go Stanford! if you watch TN games closely all season, you would notice they magically forgot how to get anyone out at first base on ground balls once the NCAA tournament started, not a winning formula. Had some close calls against cAmpbell and Georgia tech, it was only a matter of time Quote

Yeah, I like many had them winning it all. I'm guessing you want Notre Dame gone. Quote
Jmilburn76 Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Born and raised in TN but Im a die hard Notre Dame fan. GO IRISH! Quote

DaubsNU1 Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Grew up in Omaha...been to move CWS games than I can count. Family friend has 4 tickets on first base side...my daughters loved going! Sooooo glad they moved from Rosenblatt to the new stadium. College baseball is fantastic. Wish it got more exposure outside of the CWS. Looking forward to watching some baseball this weekend! Quote

Met him in Alabama of all places. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Congratulations to everyone who's team is going. I can't believe that my Vols aren't making the trip. Quote
Super User Koz Posted June 16, 2022 Super User Posted June 16, 2022 I'm still crying over South Carolina's lousy season. Too bad coaches can't be in the transfer portal! 1 1 Quote

Yeah, I hated the Gamecocks bad season too. I think it’s time to move on from Kingston. I don’t know why they are taking so long. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 18, 2022 Author Super User Posted June 18, 2022 Arkansas playing really well!!!! The bats came alive and they got rolling!!!!!! Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 22, 2022 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2022 Well, well, well, pitching has been excellent so far. Two more wins away. Quote

Do you all understand that of the 8 teams in the CWS, 6 are/will be from the SEC. Yes, 4 from the SEC West plus Texas and Oklahoma. Should be great baseball in the SEC in the coming years. And congrats to LSU alumni, Mike Bianco of Ole Miss, who guided the Rebels to the championship round. I will be cheering on the Rebels to win the championship although I did pick Oklahoma to take it all. Of course some sour grapes: Stovall from Louisiana did not make it into the champtionship round as Arkansas went down in flames, scoreless in their last game against Ole Miss. Yes, Stovall is a known LSU name with Jerry in football. And yes, LSU coach Paul Manieri had Tre Morgan at first base so no reason to go after Stovall. Get ready for at least two good games, maybe three. And only 70 +/- days until kickoff!!!! 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 25, 2022 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2022 Got to point out how much pitching is needed in Omaha. I said the arms had to be great for this to happen for the Sooners. Bennett had 3 wild pitches in 110 2/3 innings pitched this year and he had 3 in the first 2 innings, which led to 3 runs. Then he gives up the solo shot in the 3rd and the Sooners are already in a hole 4-0. Got to find a way to get runners on base and put some pressure on or it might be over before we know it. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 26, 2022 Author Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Ole Miss is in the drivers seat now. Going to take a lot for the Sooners to get back in it. If they happen to get to game three they will have their hands full assuming DeLucia can go. Better bounce back tomorrow and have better at bats. Can't keep getting behind 0-2 or 1-2. Too hard to get on base in those situations. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 26, 2022 Author Super User Posted June 26, 2022 Congrats to Ole Miss, seemed like a team of destiny. Their coach seems like a well deserved individual as well. Coaching is such a tough job and sometimes decisions can win or lose a game. Unfortunately when Skip made the decision to pull Cade in the 8th more than likely cost them the game and a possible National Championship. I realize hindsight is always 20/20 but I don't understand why you pull a guy who has been pretty unhittable all day. But he coaches College baseball at the Division 1 level and I coach JH softball, so what do I know. Maybe they can find a way back to Omaha next year, there are a lot of young guys on this squad so hopefully they can make another run. Quote
GReb Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Woohoo. The Reb in my username is for Ole Miss Rebels. I spent years going to every home game and regional in Oxford. Watched Bianco build that stadium and program from the ground up. Endured heart break after heart break before finally reaching Omaha in 2014. And even more heart break since. Bianco is a class act. His coaching staff has always been 1st class and his players too. The program has been so clean for so long and this win is way overdue. I honestly was doubtful it would ever come. And to do it after being dead in the water in April is just incredible. A magical run. Baseball is the absolute best. 1 Quote
