I did some searching in these forums and found a few that hand made rudder to mount to transom of their small boats. I was wondering if anyone knew of an already made one. Would like to put one on the transom of my bass raider. Thanks

Unless you are planning to install an inboard on that bad boy, the trolling motor is already a defacto one, no?

I had read that the raider and similar type boats have a tendency to spin when it’s a little windy and few of them had put a fixed rudder on transom.  Hopefully will get to test my new raider out within next couple weeks and see but figured I would start searching now

Not a raider, but my kayak does that.  its a trolling motor in the front boat and if the rudder isn't down the boat can be 30 degrees off from the direction of travel at times.  the rudder straightens it back out.

I don't know of a made to fit rudder for that boat, but you could look at modifying a generic kayak rudder.  They mostly use rope/cable to drive them through foot pedals or hand cranks.  You could just bolt a piece of copper pipe to it with some elbows or you could mount it fixed straight but able to flip up and down.

I did have an idea of buying one of trolling motor rudders and clamp it to a piece of pvc but anyone have an idea how to securely attach the pvc to transom?  Thanks

These boats struggle in the wind.

It does help some to distribute weight to the transom to mitigate fish tailing.

My tackle box weighs nearly what the battery weighs and both sit all the way back.

I throw this boat on and off the truck by myself so hate to add something else to it.

But yes many an owner adds a rudder, I've just learned to live with it.

I was going to get a minn kota transom mount off Amazon and a piece of pvc that will fit the bullnose rudder.

After getting the boat I put the rudder on the trolling motor just to try it out. I've yet had a need to put in the separate rudder as this set up is good so far.

So anyway, you can get the mount for something like $60 if you want to Go that route. Could also mount the shaft to a piece of 2x4 with emt clamps and use c clamps or some such to mount that to the transom as needed.

Facebook marketplace and get a transom mount trolling motor for parts or not working. Take off the bits you don’t need and add a fin to the back.

I cut the motor off and had my neighbor weld a piece of steel plate to the shaft.

Works like a champ.

Repurposing a junk transom mount trolling motor is a good way to go.
