Now that my Liberty is paid off hoping to get a canoe this month. Any suggestions on roof racks and best place to get them?

This is how i put my canoe on my liberty. I got the roof racks used on craigslist for 35$. BTW i know the canoe is to far back in the pic. I usually just ratchet strap it down like you can see because im only 5 minutes from the lake but if i go further i tie it down to the tow hooks in the front.

Thank you for that link. How long is your canoe? I'm thinking of going with a old town 14"

I bought my Yakima roof rack from the canoe dealer. It was quite expensive, but I wanted something that would require minimum effort to tie down.

If you do the research and know which part numbers to look for, and what other vehicles use the same part numbers, you can get some pretty good deals on ebay and craigslist. There are always tons of Yakima and Thule racks/parts for sale on both sites.

I would also suggest going with the widest crossbars you possibly can. It'll make it much easier to carry multiple canoes, kayaks, etc.

Bow and stern lines are highly recommended.

I have Yakima roof racks to carry my canoe on my truck.  Very sturdy, but I still like the security of bow and stern lines connected to something solid.  In my case, it's the snow plow mount in the front, and trailer hitch receiver in the back.

Ratchet straps all the way around.
