Turtle Angler Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I’ve quickly fallen in love with fishing a nose-hooked fluke this spring (yes, it’s still spring in the Upper Midwest). I’ve gotten away with it since the grass in my lake still choked anything out yet. But I’m realizing that said cover will grow over the next month, preventing me from throwing an exposed hook in those areas. I currently use a 1/0 Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse Hook for a Zoom Super Fluke or Super Fluke Jr. It got me thinking, “why not use the weedless version of that hook to throw into cover?” Has anyone tried this? How did it work? Any problems with hookup ratios? Also, has anyone nose-hooked a magnum fluke? What size Gama Wide Gap finesse hook would you use? Thanks The title is supposed to say “Weedless” ?♂️ Quote
Super User MickD Posted June 7, 2022 Super User Posted June 7, 2022 I've not tried that particular hook, but am wary of almost any weedless hook thinking that if they keep the weeds off, they will keep some fish bites off, too. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 7, 2022 Super User Posted June 7, 2022 Sorry No info on that hook - I fish mostly in open water or above the cover with this deal. btw - consider adding this Owner product to your nose hooked fluke rig. You'll be glad you did . . . https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner_CPS_Centering_Pin_Spring/descpage-OCPSS.html A-Jay 1 Quote
Turtle Angler Posted June 7, 2022 Author Posted June 7, 2022 I’m using the Owner CPS Centering pin as well, just was wondering if taking it to the next level and making it weedless is possible. 1 Quote

Do you use the Decoy Versatile Keeper Peg as well? Ever fished it with a magnum fluke? 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted June 7, 2022 Super User Posted June 7, 2022 I fish flukes quite a bit, nosed hooked using the spring and of course Texas rigged. What I've done in heavier weeds is down size to softer bait that yields better hook sets when rigged weedless. Try some 4" Keitech easy shiners with 3.0 hook and Shad impact 5". Weedless hooks up front never went well in vegetation for me. Here's a comparison for ya'....... fluke on the bottom. 2 Quote
evilcatfish Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I nose hook flukes quite a bit with hayabusa weedless wacky hooks. For the mag size a 2/0 works, I assume that size in gamakatsu will be fine too. If you want something with a little heavier wire, the decoy finesse cover HD is an excellent hook 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted June 7, 2022 Super User Posted June 7, 2022 For a 5 inch fluke or Caffeine Shad I use a 4/0 Owner Twistlock Light... either weightless or sometimes 3/32 oz. Yes, its not nose-hooked, but a hook like the Twistlock gives the lure a little more horizontal swimming action upon retrieve instead of just nose-diving into the weeds. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 8, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 8, 2022 Nose hooked with a screwlock and I put heat-shrink tubing over the eye of the screwlock to keep the hook in place. Quote
