Hello everyone,

I am new here, and I found this site when looking for help with a rod I recently purchased so hopefully you guys can give me a hand.

I recently started upping my fishing game from tossing some gear together and hoping to catch a fish to trying to understand how to properly set up my gear so that I can more properly target fish.

So anyways I wanted to put together a big heavy rod that can handle everything from musky to carp/catfish. The rod needed to be strong long and sensitive and affordable. During my search I came across the Berkeley Buzz Ramsey Air Rod 7'9" heavy Fast.

It was advertised as being light and sensitive, but amongst all the hype there were a few concerning reviews saying the tip of this rod as weak and would break under very minor pressure.

Thinking it must be people who were using the rod wrong or configured the rod improperly I told my wife she could get it for me as a gift.

She found one at a Walmart that evidently must have been sitting on the shelf for some time as Berkeley stopped making the rod two years ago.

I was finally able to set up the rod and take it fishing and to be honest it casted like a dream and had great sensitivity but sure enough.. the 5th cast I was reeling in and caught a small bass, as I was trying to land the fish off a rock ledge the very top of the rod snapped with out any warning And much less stress then I woulda expect from a heavy rod.

The reviews were true the tips of these rods are it's problem.. the break took of the first and second eye guides roughly 3 inch's the break is about 1/2" above the 3rd guide.

So now I've contacted Walmart and Berkley and am looking to get the rod replaced but in the mean time I am debating if the rod is worth removing the current remaining tip and replacing it with a repair kit tip. In total the rod will go from 7'9" to about 7'6".

Will the rod function properly enough to use if I make the repair or is it junk. The rod is new I love the look and feel of it so I'd hate to chuck it if I could use it for something like catfish or carp

Take it back to Walmart and get something else.

If you dont you'll be disappointed everytime you look at it.

I have a hard time buying into the whole Endorsed rod or reel thing.

Part of the cost goes into the endorser's pocket.

Seems like you'd get more for your money from one that wasn't endorsed, or just go JDM, especially now that all Japan is 30% off.
