I'm just curious on what everyone's favorite casting seat for bass fishing jig/worm is and what you like about it. I'm in the market for one or several and hoping to gain some subjective insight on any products out there and then do some experimenting.

Fuji ecs size 16

Simple, functional, fairly lightweight, and extremely comfortable in my hand. Its not flashy, but it feels "right" to me while casting and palming.

I haven't tried them yet but all 3 of my custom builds so far are using Fuji SK split seats - guess I'm gonna have to learn to make them my favorite!

Fuji ECSM has ID sized in 1/2 mm increments to glue with blank exposed and no arbors.  I don't know the others.

SK type skeleton seats, no matter who makes them, are much more picky about proper installation, if your ducks are not in a row the failure rate is demonstratively higher that the ECS type seats mentioned above, the decreased bonding surface area is the reason, along with the additional strength given by the strap of material under the reel tying all the parts together.

I haven't found a skeleton type casting seat yet that I find comfortable.  And I don't care for the SK spinning seats either.  And I thought that Fuji's ACS was a pretty nice design until I put one on a rod fished with it.

I agree with Havonac, I can't stand the spinning version period, and since I played around with this in the early 90's till now, anything under 12 mm in blank size is very uncomfortable, the fatter the better.

I've got pretty big hands, almost 10" span from thumb to pinky here's my thoughts on the sk2. I have a Fuji sk on 2 factory rods 1 spinning, 1 casting. The casting seat is comfortable for me ONLY with a three finger in front of the trigger semi palm position. When I palm it, it tends to cramp my hands, two fingers in front and it's no longer comfortable again because there's just not enough material there and it feels like a little stick in my hands. It works out though because that's how I fish twitch techniques, jerkbaits, poppers and the like. The spinning rod with the split Fuji I THOUGHT I liked until I put a fuji TVS In my hands. A buddy of mine has a TV's on his croix spinning rod and I loved it. It's one of the things that drove me to building. The apex is dangerously close to being a direct copy of a TVS. I just love how they seem to fall right into place when I tighten my grip.

Interesting to me how many votes go to ECS. zero mention of PTS, or ACS (except for negative feedback). I wish the ecs could be had with hidden threads. Doesn't seem that configuration is available. Only time I have a finger on the blank is when twitching baits with three fingers forward, otherwise I palm and run the line across my finger. I find the bigger diameter hidden thread cover to just add to comfort since I'm of the mindset that bites aren't felt by fingers touching the blank rather they're felt in the hand in the form of a tap, or the tension of the line against my finger changing. I'll stop rambling. ?

ECSM 16 with KDPS 16 hood.  Can be cut quite a bit shorter.

You can cut the ecs and the kdps to fit the smaller carbon fiber sleeves. Pretty much everyone has the fuji perfect fit options, voodoo has some gloss and matte black options, and NFC actually makes a standard carbon fiber sleeve. The one from NFC only comes in full length, I cut them in half (and sometimes trim a bit more off). I can't remember all the actual measurements off the top of my head but you will see what I mean when you look.

There is a YouTube video of someone cutting a kdps and reel seat out there somewhere, I think it might have been a fuji perfect fit promo.

I think most of the seats are good...but one thing I like to do is file down the trigger.

I tend to palm that area at times. Kind of a snub trigger.

That's a great idea too! Definitely didn't think to do that but it's easy to work with. I've cut threads off easily anyway.

That sucker is one sweet looking rig! Did you get your crank and grips from hedgehog? Do you run size 16 or 17?

Size 16 in casting.

Naw, that's some cheap $20 amazon reel handle. Jekoson I think.

I believe the only reason for a size 17 is if the blank is  too large in diameter for the size 16 seat.

I like the ACSM, slightly different from the ECS.  But both are available in different ID sizes so they are simple to build, no arbor required and the hand is on the blank at the window.  Yes, there are other manufacturers making similar seats, but I like the consistent Fuji quality.

I haven't messed with the TVS any. Does it have any advantages over a KDPS aside from the cosmetic differences?

Are you making those sleeves or buying them?

The threaded sleeve is shorter and I feel the hood appearance is cleaner over the KDPS.  I'm making my own sleeves and using the Fuji trim parts.
