scrutch Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I've got a 99 Cobra 180. The hull is white. Along and below the waterline there's some yellow staining that doesn't wipe off when I wash my boat. It does come off when I scrape it with my fingernail but its really tough. Any product recommendations? I use BTS but it doesn't seem to help. Am I just applying the BTS wrong? Seems like I need a good rubbing compound that you can use on gelcoat. Quote
R520dvx Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Sounds like minerals and lime from the water. try white vinegar or a lime remover like CLR. Try the lime remover in a hidden place first. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 Sounds like Pollen stains to me, I use Orange Blast by Greased Lighting; it can be found at Wal-Mart in the automotive department. It'll clean your boat hull, fuel tank area, upholstery, & tires. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 Rubbing compound is never good for gel-coat unless you have a serious problem. I would take catt's advise and use the orange it's pretty good stuff or I would find a concentrated soap and not dilute it too much that works pretty good too. Quote
scrutch Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Quit peeing off the front of the boat...lol. I assure you sir that I ONLY pee off the back!! ;D Quote
Javelin200 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I use StarBrite Hull Cleaner. Works like a charm. Can pick it up at any marine store. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 Sno bowl is as good as it gets. If it's really tough, sno bowl and ammonia. MAKE SURE TO PUT WATER IN THE BUCKET FIRST BEFORE ADDING THE OTHER 2 MIXTURES!! Quote

BTS is a protectant to keep those stains from happening in the first place. To remove them try the suggestions that were mentioned here. Another good product is "The Works toilet cleaner. You can get it at most stores for about a buck. Apply with a sponge and let sit for a couple of minutes , then rinse. Might take a couple of applications to remove everything. After the stains are gone apply a couple coats of BTS according to the directions and the stains will not return. Quote
