Gazz Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Trying to gets some ideas for preferred vibrating jig rods that are not glass rods and do not come with a full cork grip. The obvious answer is probably an NRX+ but I'm not trying to go that route at the moment. I know the IMX Pro has a great rod but it's full cork and I don't want that. My thoughts right now are 7'5 MH/F Zodias and 7'5 Orochi Brailist. The Brailist is just a theory of mine that it could be a great vibrating jig rod with the rod being a bit more parabolic and still having the power. I've wanted there Brailist for awhile anyways so killing 2 birds would be great but it's not my main concern. Any suggestions? Quote
TNBankFishing Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 If you’re interested in the Orochi line the EMTF is the one you truly want. Its a fantastic reaction bait rod. I own it’s big brother the Javelin and it’s my favorite spinnerbait stick. It can also through shallow to medium cranks, drag 3/4 footballs, and big topwaters. The action is right for chatters, and it was my go to until I moved it into a more Swiss Army role and picked up a BLX. The Brailist which I owned is more focused on bottom contact. While definitely a more moderate action than a Loomis rod it isn’t really soft enough to throw reaction baits. It does well with a swim jig though. Another option for 1/2 and 5/8th jigs is the Perfect Pitch. The top 3rd is limber enough to sling baits but has a serious backend. Would double as a pitching stick and frog rod. My personal chatter rod is a the MH Limber Graphite BLX by Daiwa. It’s just amazing for 1/2 chatters and can throw some decent mid to deep cranks as well. If you’re willing to go super high end the NRX+ 903MBR would be a sick option. Quote
Kevhead19 Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I have had a great time with the Evergreen Combat 7'2 MH Mod Fast rod. It's labeled the SB-125 / Moving Versatile rod. The rod is graphite with split eva. I use it for bladed jigs/swim jig /spinnerbaits with great success. I do prefer Evergeen's glass rods but the rod listed above fits your criteria. I also have used the Millerods Castfreak with the bladed jigs it works well. It's a 7ft graphite rod. They have a 7'6 Bladefreak graphite designed for what you're looking for - no glass - but I have no personal experience with that model. Quote
Tatulatard Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Megabass valkaryie in mh or h. It's a 60% graphite 40% glass mixed material. Fishes like a mod fast graphite rod and turns to butter once a fish is on. People who know a lot more about what makes for a good bladed jig rod than me have been raving about it and I finally caved and got one. I fished it for the 1st time the other day and I am in love. What a rod. Its not like a glass stick at all until you hook a fish then it acts like it has a 2nd hidden action and become more moderate. Quote
KP Duty Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Daiwa BLX 7'4" MH/moderate in the 'limber' series is my go-to. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Well, In that price range the Z Bone in the LMH is sweet. I kinda think it's overkill for a moving bait and I personally use a blended blank but none the less the Z bone is about as good as it's going to get. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 3, 2022 Super User Posted June 3, 2022 I prefer an XF taper for large single hook baits. I want to be into the power of the rod quickly to drive that hook. Moderate and parabolic tapers may throw a chatterbait nicely, but need not apply to hook setting, unless you step way up on the power. Even then, what's the point? I'd rather use a lighter rod whenever possible. 1 Quote

It seems like it based on your initial rod thoughts, but in case you're not I'll throw one out for you. The Falcon expert 'lizzard dragger' is a great chatterbait rod. I fish a lot of chatterbaits on a lot of rods. At one point this spring I had 3/4 of the rods in the boat rigged with a chatterbait. Different actions, lengths, powers, etc. I also prefer a more moderate fast rod. My favorite right now is the Shimano Crucial IM10 crankbait rod because it just flings them. The falcon is right next to it. 7', 3/8-1 oz, moderate fast (on the moderate side of that), heavy power (though closer to a MH+). It flings a 1/2 oz CB and trailer really well. Quote

Gera Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I use the Dobyns champion xp 705cb, MH moderate. great power for single hooks and get it out of the weed but parabolic to keep them pin. I think there is an option for split grip. Orochis are great, but aren't they all full grip?? I only have the Diablo and the Tour versatile but I believe they all do. Quote

They have a carbon fiber ring separating the two pieces of cork. I'm guessing it gets a pass because the "no full cork" requirement is there to filter out old fashioned looking rods and the Orochi are far from that despite being full cork. Just my guess. Quote
Bandersnatch Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Easy. The 7’3 mh adrena. The emtf is also fantastic but certainly heavier. A 7’3 mh adrena paired with an aldebaran mgl and 30lb braid is a beautiful thing for chatterbaits 2 Quote

The PA7'2H & Dobyns XP 735 work really well for me too. scott Quote
MiceNReets Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 I’ve found the Okuma TCS Scott Martin 7’3 Heavy Frog/Swimbait rod to be amazing for chatterbaits. I haven’t tried the newest version that doesn’t have Scott martins name on it but I imagine it’s just as great. I also second the 7’2 MH evergreen combat stick. Fantastic rod! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 5, 2022 Global Moderator Posted June 5, 2022 I use a 6' 9" H/F Hammer Micro. I've tried a lot of rods for them, this has been by far the best for the job. Quote
RDB Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 I’m a NRX fanboy but I would never spend that kind of money for a Chatterbait rod. Personally I have tried a lot of rods and would choose the Alpha Angler ChatterBound over all of them (the rebound is excellent as well). However, it is a composite rod…frankly don’t understand why that would be a deal breaker. https://www.alphaangler.com/collections/bait-casting-rods/products/alpha-angler-chatterbound Quote
Basswhippa Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 I have an old black carbon lite 7'6" Heavy with an xf tip that is awesome. It actually is more of a mh. They have a pro qualifier that is similar. Rated mh. But a Dobyns 7'3" CB glass is phenomenal. Balanced, capable, well deserved as being one of the best. It's a composite rod I believe so that might disqualify it in your search. Sensitive in my hands. Quote
